Non-Park Things to Do in Orlando

We have been to WDW and Universal Parks many times and are visiting in late June mainly for the opening of Universal - EPIC. We are a family of 6; 2 60 yo adults (moderately active) and 4 adult kids ranging from 22-25 yo. What are some non-park things to do during the day? We will have a car and already have plans for relaxation at the resort for a few days.

Orlando is full of interesting options beyond the theme parks, and with a car, you can explore a wide variety of activities that suit both active and more relaxed travelers. Since your group includes a mix of adults in their 20s and older adults, here are some ideas for daytime outings in late June.

Outdoor & Nature Activities:

  • Lake Eola Park: Located in downtown Orlando, this scenic lake park is perfect for a leisurely stroll, swan boat rental, or enjoying local food trucks.
  • Leu Gardens: A beautiful botanical garden near downtown Orlando, great for a calm walk among tropical plants and flowers.
  • Wekiwa Springs State Park: Offers swimming in crystal-clear springs, kayaking, or hiking trails. Perfect for a more active day in nature.
  • Shingle Creek Regional Park: Paddle along the headwaters of the Everglades in canoes or kayaks, a unique Florida ecosystem experience.

Arts, Culture & Shopping:

  • Orlando Museum of Art: Enjoy contemporary and classic art exhibitions, suitable for a cultural break.
  • Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art: Located in Winter Park, famous for its Tiffany glass collection.
  • Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour: A relaxing, 1-hour narrated cruise through lakes and canals, ideal for seeing elegant homes and local wildlife.
  • Park Avenue in Winter Park: Great for boutique shopping, cafés, and art galleries—perfect for a laid-back day.

Fun & Unique Experiences:

  • ICON Park: Features The Wheel, Madame Tussauds, Sea Life Aquarium, and dining options. Fun for photos and light adventure without entering a theme park.
  • Andretti Indoor Karting & Games: Go-karting, laser tag, and arcade fun for energetic family members.
  • Escape Rooms: Orlando has several themed escape rooms that provide a fun challenge for groups of all ages.
  • Local Food Tours: Sample cuisine from food trucks, local bakeries, or guided culinary tours in neighborhoods like Mills 50 or Ivanhoe District.

These activities give you flexibility to explore Orlando’s nature, culture, and entertainment without spending a day in the parks, and they cater to a variety of energy levels and interests in your family group.
