to see Terracotta Museum
Hello, are there any direct bus or train to the Terracotta Museum? just thinking of buying online ticket and taking the train/bus there. Or is it better to join a day tour? thank you
The Terracotta Army is one of Xi’an’s most famous attractions, located about 40 km east of the city center. Visiting can be done independently or via a day tour, depending on your preference for convenience and flexibility.
Regarding transportation:
- Public Bus: There are several bus options from Xi’an city to the Terracotta Army. The most common is Bus No. 306 from Xi’an Railway Station or Bus No. 914 from the South Gate of the City Wall, which takes around 1–1.5 hours. Buses are frequent but may get crowded, especially in peak season.
- Tourist Shuttle Bus: Many hotels or tourist centers sell shuttle tickets that go directly to the museum. These are convenient and drop you near the entrance.
- Train: There is no direct train from Xi’an city center to the Terracotta Army. Some travelers take the high-speed train from Xi’an North to the nearby town of Lintong and then a short taxi ride, but it is less common and may not save time.
Buying tickets online for the Terracotta Museum is recommended, especially during peak tourist seasons. Most official websites or platforms like Ctrip/Trip.com offer e-tickets.
Joining a day tour has its advantages:
- Transportation is arranged, so you don’t need to navigate buses or taxis.
- Many tours include a knowledgeable guide who explains the history and significance of the site.
- Some tours also include stops at nearby attractions like the Banpo Museum or local pottery workshops.
In summary, if you prefer flexibility and a bit of adventure, you can take the public bus and buy the museum ticket online. If convenience, time efficiency, and guided explanations are important, a day tour is a better choice.
