New Stadium - Sevens

Hello all,

I'll be attending the HK Sevens later this month. I believe that there is no night life in the vicinity of the new Kai Tak stadium? If so, where should I stay to be closer to the action at night, but not too far from the stadium? Previously, I stayed close to the old stadium, which was also quite close to fun bars like Joe Bananas. I presume that I'll need to stay on the Kowloon side this time, but I'm not sure where the nightlife is on that side. Thanks.

The new Hong Kong Stadium for the Sevens at Kai Tak is located in an area that is primarily redeveloped and residential, so the immediate vicinity does not have a vibrant nightlife scene like the old stadium area near Wan Chai. Most bars and nightlife venues are concentrated elsewhere in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.

Accommodation considerations:

  • Staying very close to Kai Tak will make it easy to access the stadium, but nightlife options will be limited. You would likely need to use taxis, MTR, or buses to reach evening entertainment.
  • Recommended areas to stay for both nightlife and reasonable access to the stadium include Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, or Kowloon East (like Kwun Tong). These areas have plenty of bars, restaurants, and pubs, and are within 15–25 minutes by MTR or taxi to Kai Tak.

Nightlife options near Kowloon side:

  • Tsim Sha Tsui: Popular with tourists and locals alike, with numerous bars, rooftop venues, and nightclubs along Canton Road and Knutsford Terrace.
  • Mong Kok: Busy area with night markets, bars, and late-night eateries. More casual nightlife compared to Tsim Sha Tsui but lively.
  • Kowloon East (Kwun Tong / Kowloon Bay): Emerging bar scene with trendy cafes and craft beer spots. Less crowded than Tsim Sha Tsui but growing.

Transportation tips:

  • The Kai Tak area is served by several MTR stations, including the new Kai Tak station on the Tuen Ma Line, making travel to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island straightforward.
  • Taxis are readily available and convenient for groups, especially if returning late at night.

In summary, for convenience to the stadium and access to nightlife, staying in Tsim Sha Tsui or Mong Kok is probably your best compromise. You can enjoy bars and nightlife in the evening while being able to reach the stadium quickly for the HK Sevens.
