Nearby hotels - pls help me choose
I posted this on the DelMar Forum which I realize isn't very active and thought I might also throw myself on the mercy of helpful people in San Diego who might know. Thx so much.
Friends from LA celebrating a b'day on an April weekend. Looking for a lovely updated room and bathroom, great spa, fine dining. I'm spinning reading reviews from L'Auberge, Estancia La Jolla, Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
Could somebody help me decide please? I'm sure each will have pluses and if the food isn't great but the rooms are, we can easily head elsewhere for dinner. Grateful for advice from a local! Thank you in advance,
All three properties you are considering—L’Auberge Del Mar, Estancia La Jolla, and Inn at Rancho Santa Fe—are excellent luxury resorts, but they each have a slightly different vibe, location, and amenities. Here’s a detailed breakdown to help you decide:
L’Auberge Del Mar:
- Located right in Del Mar, walking distance to the beach and the Del Mar Village shops and restaurants.
- Rooms and bathrooms are recently updated, with a chic, coastal California feel.
- Spa is highly rated, offering a full menu of treatments, including couples’ massages.
- Onsite dining is upscale, with a focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients; meals can be leisurely and elegant.
- Best for: Beach lovers who want walkable access to restaurants and a lively, yet relaxing atmosphere.
Estancia La Jolla:
- Set on 10 acres in La Jolla, more of a secluded, quiet resort feel surrounded by gardens and courtyards.
- Rooms are spacious and elegantly appointed, with a more classic ranch-style California aesthetic.
- Spa is excellent, offering a range of services in a serene setting.
- Dining is good; the restaurant serves California cuisine with a focus on seasonal ingredients. For a wider dining experience, La Jolla village is a short drive.
- Best for: Guests who want a romantic, quiet retreat with easy access to La Jolla’s attractions.
Inn at Rancho Santa Fe:
- Located in a charming, historic ranch community north of San Diego; very private and peaceful.
- Rooms are luxurious, many with fireplaces and terraces, bathrooms are spacious and updated.
- Spa is excellent but smaller than L’Auberge and Estancia; very personalized service.
- Onsite dining is high-quality, but options are limited; many guests drive to nearby towns for more variety.
- Best for: Travelers seeking ultimate privacy, classic elegance, and a serene, countryside atmosphere.
Decision Considerations:
- If proximity to the beach, shops, and a lively vibe is a priority: L’Auberge Del Mar.
- If a romantic, lush garden retreat near La Jolla is preferred: Estancia La Jolla.
- If privacy, historic charm, and a peaceful countryside feel are most important: Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
All three have excellent spas and very comfortable, updated rooms. If dining quality is crucial and you want a range of nearby options, L’Auberge Del Mar may edge out the others slightly due to its walkable village location. For a serene getaway with beautiful grounds, Estancia or Rancho Santa Fe are fantastic choices.
