Where to stay downtown

We are visiting Palm Springs in early June and had booked the Holiday House but have been bumped (which is very annoying) as they have taken a reservation for the full hotel so we are now in search of somewhere else....

We want to be in the same location ie within walking distance of restaurants and bars, and are considering Avalon or sister hotel Ingleside - are we barking up the right tree or should we be considering somewhere else? So what's important.... A good pool with comfy loungers (preferably with cushions), good coffee and a bar and if possible a restaurant serving breakfast but not essential....

Thank you so much Tripadvisors, we need to get this booked up.... x

For a downtown Palm Springs stay in early June, you’re right to prioritize location, pool quality, and nearby amenities. Being within walking distance of restaurants and bars is key for enjoying the vibrant downtown area without relying on a car, and both Avalon and Ingleside are solid options.

Here’s a breakdown of your choices and considerations:

  • Avalon Hotel: Known for its stylish, boutique design and central location, Avalon is within easy walking distance to many downtown restaurants and bars. The pool area is well-maintained with comfortable loungers, and there is a bar on-site. Breakfast service varies, so you might need to plan for nearby cafés if that’s essential.
  • Ingleside Hotel: This is a sister property to Avalon and offers a similar boutique experience. It’s also centrally located, with good access to dining and nightlife. Pool quality is high, and the ambiance tends to be slightly quieter than Avalon. Bar and coffee service are available, but check specific room options if breakfast is a priority.
  • Alternative options: If you want to compare a few more properties that meet your criteria, consider:
    • Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs: Newly renovated, centrally located, excellent pool with loungers, bar, and breakfast options.
    • Palm Springs Rendezvous: Boutique and stylish with a strong focus on poolside comfort and on-site amenities.
    • Ace Hotel & Swim Club: Trendy and fun atmosphere, great for adults, with a lively pool scene, bar, and dining options. Slightly further from the very center of downtown but still walkable.

Additional tips for booking:

  • Book as early as possible for early June, as Palm Springs hotels fill up quickly, especially boutique properties.
  • Confirm the pool setup and availability of cushioned loungers if that is a priority, as some boutique hotels rotate pool furniture seasonally.
  • Check whether breakfast is included or available on-site if that’s important to your morning routine.
  • Consider proximity to your favorite dining spots downtown when choosing between Avalon and Ingleside—they are close but may offer slightly different walking experiences depending on street access.

Overall, Avalon and Ingleside are both excellent choices if you want central location, a comfortable pool, and easy access to downtown Palm Springs nightlife. If you want more modern amenities or a slightly more upscale experience, looking at Kimpton Rowan or Ace Hotel may also be worthwhile.
