Poco Diablo vs. Los Abrigados

Any thoughts on these two specific hotels? I have a reservation at Poco Diablo, but could cancel and book Los Abrigados through a timeshare owner rental for about the same price. I have read through some of the previous chains and have seen that some complain about the parking at Los Abrigados (doesn't scare us much being from LA) and the Poco Diablo is dated. We can't go up much in price range - plus most places are booked out this upcoming week. Just wondering if I should make the switch to Los Abrigados. It will be me, my husband, and my 7 year old.

THANKS SO MUCH TA!!

Both Poco Diablo and Los Abrigados are well-regarded Sedona accommodations, but they cater to slightly different preferences. Since you’ll be traveling with your spouse and a 7-year-old, your choice should weigh factors like pool space, room layout, walkability, and overall atmosphere.

Poco Diablo Resort:

  • Resort-style property with a more traditional feel. Some rooms and areas are a bit dated, but generally well-maintained.
  • Has a nice pool area suitable for families, and the grounds are spacious with southwestern landscaping.
  • Located close to Uptown Sedona, which is convenient for walking to shops, restaurants, and casual sightseeing.
  • Parking is generally easy and free, and the resort offers on-site amenities such as a restaurant, bar, and shuttle service to nearby attractions.

Los Abrigados Resort & Spa:

  • Timeshare-style property with modern units; some guests appreciate the updated rooms and villa-style layouts that offer kitchens or kitchenettes—great for families with kids.
  • Has multiple pools, including a kid-friendly pool, which can be a big plus for a 7-year-old.
  • Parking can be a bit tight at peak times, but as you mentioned, this likely won’t be an issue for visitors used to urban settings like LA.
  • Close to restaurants and shops, though slightly less central than Poco Diablo for walking compared to Uptown Sedona.
  • Also has a spa and more expansive grounds with pathways for short strolls.

Additional considerations:

  • If having a more “resort-like” experience with kid-friendly pool time and modern unit amenities is a priority, Los Abrigados may be slightly better, especially with the timeshare rental option.
  • If walking distance to Uptown Sedona, a more central location, and a classic Sedona resort feel are more important, Poco Diablo remains a solid choice.
  • Given that both are comparable in price and availability is limited, your decision may come down to whether you value the pool/kitchenette setup over slightly easier access to Uptown Sedona.

Overall, for a family with a young child and minimal difference in cost, switching to Los Abrigados could be advantageous for the pool, unit layout, and family-friendly amenities. Poco Diablo is still perfectly fine if you prefer the central location and traditional resort atmosphere.
