How busy is the peak tram on a Saturday evening ?

Have an upcoming October HK transit, arriving Sat 3:20 PM and departing Sun 1:25 AM. Was thinking of getting to the Peak Tram via mid-level escalators at 6 PM, am I looking for at a prolong wait there going up ?

I'm hoping that since sunset is just before 6PM that it would be less crowded. Will take minibus 1 / bus 15 back down. Have access to CX The Pier First lounge, so wanted to return to HKIA by 10 PM

The Peak Tram is one of Hong Kong's most popular attractions, especially on weekends, and a Saturday evening in October is considered a peak period due to sunset views and tourist traffic.

Arriving at the Mid-Levels Escalator around 6 PM, just around sunset, will likely still see a significant crowd. Sunset is a prime time for photography and city views, so even though you are not arriving right at peak daytime hours, expect a moderate to long wait.

Some points to consider:

  • Queue times can range from 20–45 minutes on a Saturday evening during sunset.
  • Using the Mid-Levels Escalator to approach the tram may help with positioning but won’t reduce the actual tram queue significantly, as most visitors line up at the Peak Tram Lower Terminus.
  • Buying tickets in advance or using a pre-paid Peak Tram pass can slightly reduce waiting time.

For the return trip:

  • Taking Minibus 1 or Bus 15 down is a good choice; both are reliable and operate regularly in the evening.
  • Allow extra time for travel back to the airport, especially factoring in evening traffic and customs checks if you plan to return by 10 PM.

Summary: Expect a moderate to long wait at the Peak Tram on a Saturday evening at sunset, even arriving via the Mid-Levels Escalator. Plan your timing carefully to ensure you return to HKIA comfortably for your late-night flight.
