W Hotel outdoor pool

Has anyone who has been here confirm if food and beverages are allowed around the outdoor pool area? I've seen several websites describe it as a party pool but on their official website, says no food or drink by either of their pools. I like to have a beer while lounging by the pool, will this be possible?

At the W Shanghai hotel, the outdoor pool area is primarily designed for relaxation and swimming, and the official policy is quite clear: no outside food or beverages are allowed around the pool.

Guests are generally allowed to order food and drinks from the hotel’s poolside service, such as from the bar or restaurant, but consuming your own beer or snacks that you bring in from outside is not permitted. This policy is in place for safety, hygiene, and to maintain the atmosphere of the pool area.

Some points to consider:

  • The “party pool” description on some websites usually refers to the social vibe or occasional events hosted at the pool, not to relaxed consumption of outside drinks.
  • You can order alcoholic drinks or soft drinks from the pool bar or restaurant staff and consume them while lounging on the pool chairs.
  • If you attempt to bring in outside beverages, staff may politely ask you to dispose of them or take them away from the pool area.

So, while enjoying a beer by the pool is possible, it has to be purchased through the hotel’s poolside service rather than brought in yourself. This ensures compliance with hotel rules and avoids any issues during your stay.
