Shanghai bike tour
Hello everybody,
I am looking for a 3 hours morning bike tour at reasonable price. Preferably with Shanghai company and not thru get your guide, kook or viator. Anybody an advice? Or perhaps not very common to do a bike trip in Shanghai? See prices of USD75 for 3 hours while usually it is USD45 in a group of max 12 (in the world :-))
Doing a morning bike tour in Shanghai is definitely possible and can be a fun way to explore both the historical neighborhoods and the modern cityscape. While platforms like GetYourGuide, Klook, or Viator often have tours, there are local Shanghai-based companies or independent guides that offer similar experiences at a more reasonable price, especially for smaller groups.
Here are some options and tips to consider:
- Local Shanghai Bike Tours: Some local operators run small-group tours through the French Concession, Old Town, and along the Bund. Prices are often around USD 40–50 for 3 hours. You can usually contact them directly via their websites or social media (WeChat is commonly used in Shanghai for bookings).
- Independent Guides: Many expatriates or local guides in Shanghai offer private bike tours. These are often more flexible in timing and route, and you can negotiate the price directly, often cheaper than USD 75.
- Self-organized Group Tours: If you are traveling with friends, some local bike rental shops in areas like the French Concession or Jing’an allow you to rent bikes and provide maps or suggested routes. You could organize a guided experience with a local guide for a small fee.
Additional tips:
- Book early, especially if you want a morning slot, as tours fill up quickly during weekends and peak travel seasons.
- Check reviews and verify that the guide speaks sufficient English if that is important for your tour experience.
- Bring water, sunscreen, and a mask or scarf if air quality is an issue, as Shanghai can be humid and sometimes smoggy.
- Consider visiting less crowded neighborhoods like Tianzifang, Xintiandi, and local markets in addition to the main tourist spots to make the experience more authentic.
Overall, a 3-hour morning bike tour is a great way to see Shanghai at a leisurely pace, and booking directly with a local guide or small company is usually cheaper than the global platforms while providing a more personalized experience.
