Best way to travel from Anaheim area to Universal Studios

We are travelling in May-June and looking to travel from Anaheim hotel to Universal Studios Hollywood for the day. From what I can see it's quite the journey - and my youngest daughter has an invisible disability.

What would be the easiest & cheapest way for 6 of us to travel to and from the park? Do you think we would be better off just grabbing a couple of Uber or rideshare? Would anyone know an approx price for that?

Traveling from Anaheim to Universal Studios Hollywood can be a bit of a trek, as the distance is roughly 35-40 miles depending on your route, and traffic in Los Angeles can add significant time. Since you’re traveling with a group of 6 and one member has an invisible disability, comfort, convenience, and minimizing stress are key considerations.

Here are the main options for transportation:

  • Rideshare/Uber or Lyft: This is likely the easiest option for a group of 6. You would probably need two large SUVs or an UberXL/van to accommodate everyone and their belongings. Travel time can range from 50 minutes to 1.5 hours each way depending on traffic. Approximate one-way cost could be $60–$100 per vehicle, so total for round-trip could be around $240–$400. The advantage is door-to-door service, which is especially convenient for your daughter’s needs.
  • Rental Van: Renting a 7- or 8-passenger van for the day allows your group to travel together on your schedule. You can leave and return as needed, and it can be more cost-effective if rideshare fares are high during peak times. Gas and rental fees will need to be factored in, but it may provide more comfort and flexibility.
  • Public Transit (Metro/Bus): Technically possible, but not recommended for your group, given the multiple transfers, potential crowding, and longer travel time (2–3 hours each way). Managing a 6-person group with a child who has special needs would make this stressful.

Recommendations:

  • For convenience and minimizing stress, Uber/Lyft or a rental van is the best approach.
  • If you book rideshare, try to schedule pickups outside peak rush hours to avoid heavy traffic.
  • Consider bringing snacks, water, and entertainment for the ride, especially if traffic is slow.
  • Check Universal Studios’ policies for guests with disabilities—there are accommodations that may make your visit easier once inside the park.

Overall, for a group of 6 and considering comfort and convenience, a rental van or two rideshare vehicles will likely be your best option. While it’s more expensive than public transit, it saves stress and ensures a smoother day for everyone, particularly for your daughter with the invisible disability.
