Train from Beijing to Shanghai

Hi, on my trip to China I would like to take the night train T109 to move from Beijing to Shanghai. On Trip.com I can't find the details of the arrival and departure stations (they are only called "Beijing" and "Shanghai")... could you tell me which are these stations, so I can find them on Google Maps? Thank you all so much!

The night train T109 from Beijing to Shanghai is a popular overnight sleeper service. When booking platforms like Trip.com only list the stations as "Beijing" and "Shanghai," it can be confusing, but the actual departure and arrival stations are standardized for this train.

  • Departure Station in Beijing: Beijing Railway Station (北京站, Beijing Zhan). This is the central station in the city, located in Dongcheng District, near the Wangfujing area. It is different from Beijing South or Beijing West stations, which serve mostly high-speed trains.
  • Arrival Station in Shanghai: Shanghai Railway Station (上海站, Shanghai Zhan). This is also a central station located in Jing’an District of Shanghai. It is not Shanghai Hongqiao Station, which primarily handles high-speed trains.

Some additional notes to make your trip easier:

  • Check the exact platform and carriage information on your ticket, as the train has both soft sleeper and hard sleeper options.
  • Beijing Railway Station is well connected to the metro (Lines 2 and 13) and bus services, which is helpful if you are coming from central Beijing.
  • Shanghai Railway Station also has a metro connection (Lines 1, 3, and 4) and plenty of taxis outside, making it convenient to reach your hotel or other destinations in the city.
  • If you use Google Maps, search using the Chinese names “北京站” for Beijing Railway Station and “上海站” for Shanghai Railway Station to get accurate directions and travel times.

In summary, for night train T109:

  • Departure: Beijing Railway Station (北京站)
  • Arrival: Shanghai Railway Station (上海站)

Planning ahead for transfers from and to these stations will make your overnight train journey much smoother.
