Chengdu city to Dujiangyan irrigation
Hi,
How long is the train ride from Chengdu city to Dujiangyan? if we want to see the light up at night, do we need to stay a night there or is it possible to get back to Chengdu city at night? We will be going in end of May.
If we stay there, is it possible to get a DiDi car to TianFu Int'l airport and what will be the cost like?
Thanks!
The train ride from Chengdu city to Dujiangyan is relatively short and convenient. There are multiple options depending on the train type you choose:
- High-speed train (Chengdu East to Dujiangyan): Around 30–40 minutes.
- Regular train (Chengdu to Dujiangyan): Approximately 50–60 minutes.
- Trains run frequently throughout the day, roughly every 30–60 minutes, making a day trip feasible.
If your goal is to see the illuminated Dujiangyan irrigation system at night, here are some considerations:
- The light show or night lighting usually starts around 7–8 PM and lasts a few hours.
- Returning to Chengdu city the same night is possible, as the last trains back typically run until 9–10 PM. However, this requires careful timing to avoid missing the last train, especially if you stay for dinner or extra sightseeing in the evening.
- Staying overnight in Dujiangyan can make the experience more relaxed and convenient. There are multiple hotels near the scenic area.
Regarding transportation from Dujiangyan to TianFu International Airport:
- DiDi (or other ride-hailing apps) is available in Dujiangyan, but the airport is around 60–70 km away, taking roughly 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic.
- The estimated cost for a DiDi ride to TianFu Airport is around 250–350 CNY for a standard car. Prices can vary slightly depending on demand and vehicle type.
Summary recommendation:
- If you prefer a stress-free experience, consider staying overnight in Dujiangyan to enjoy the lights and avoid rushing back.
- If you are confident with timing and want to save on accommodation, a late train back to Chengdu is doable, but plan your evening schedule carefully.
- Booking a DiDi in advance is possible, but ensure the app works and your destination is set correctly to avoid any issues at the airport.
