Chengdu to Bifeng gorge

Dear all,

We would like to go from Chengdu to Bifeng gorge in late October this year.

We found contradictory information online, and are not sure about what is true or not.

Is there a direct bus that goes to Bifengxia? Or will we need to stop in Y'aan and take a shuttle bus?

Side question: would it be faster to do train + taxi ?

Traveling from Chengdu to Bifeng Gorge (Bifengxia) in late October is straightforward but requires planning, as direct connections are somewhat limited.

Direct bus options:

There is no regular high-frequency direct bus from Chengdu city center directly to Bifengxia Gorge. Most buses head toward Ya’an, where passengers then transfer to local shuttles or taxis to reach the scenic area.
The Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station (新南门汽车站) operates long-distance buses to Ya’an and some to Bifengxia Gorge, but schedules can be irregular and may change seasonally. It’s recommended to check closer to your travel date.

Chengdu → Ya’an → Bifengxia transfer:

Take a bus from Chengdu to Ya’an (approx. 2–3 hours).
From Ya’an, transfer to a local shuttle bus or taxi to Bifengxia Gorge (approx. 1 hour). Shuttle buses are often timed to meet the arrival of long-distance buses.

Alternative: Train + Taxi/Bus:

Chengdu to Ya’an has frequent train services, which are reliable and slightly faster than buses (around 1.5–2 hours depending on the train type).
From Ya’an train station, you can take a taxi or arrange a private car to Bifengxia Gorge. This option is faster and more comfortable, especially if you prefer flexibility and fewer transfers.
Note that taxis may cost more than local shuttle buses but provide a door-to-door service without waiting times.

Recommendation:

If you prefer convenience and minimal transfers, taking the train to Ya’an followed by a taxi/private transfer is the fastest and most comfortable way.
