Uber going TO HK airport

Hello, we are leaving HK in a few days. We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel because I read the pick up from Uber can be difficult to find. If I take uber TO the airport will they drop me off right at the terminal I need to go to or will it be parking lot? Traveling w an elderly person so do not want to take metro with all the luggage. Do not want to take a taxi because I might not have enough cash and taxis are cash only. Is Uber more convenient for drop off right at terminal and pay by card going to airport or any other suggestions? Thanks!

In Hong Kong, Uber is allowed to operate through licensed taxi services or “premium taxi” apps. While Uber itself is available, its functionality can differ from other countries. Generally, taking an Uber to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is feasible, and the driver can drop you off at the passenger drop-off area close to the terminal building.

Here’s what you should know for your trip to HKIA:

  • Uber (or equivalent ride-hailing services like GoGoVan or HKTaxi) can take you directly to the airport terminal drop-off area, not a distant parking lot. Drivers are familiar with the official airport pick-up/drop-off zones.
  • You can pay via the app with a credit or debit card, which is convenient if you do not want to carry cash. This avoids the cash-only issue of traditional taxis.
  • The drop-off point at HKIA is typically just outside the arrivals level for departures. You and your elderly companion can easily access the check-in counters and luggage areas.

Additional tips for convenience and safety:

  • Schedule your Uber pickup with extra time in case of traffic — airport access roads can get congested.
  • Confirm the terminal with your driver before departure to ensure they drop you at the correct check-in zone.
  • If you have a lot of luggage or require assistance, you may request a vehicle with more space (SUV or van) within the app.
  • Alternatively, consider the Airport Express Limousine service offered by the airport, which allows card payments and direct drop-off at the terminal, though it is more expensive than Uber.

Overall, Uber is generally more convenient than cash taxis for paying by card, and drop-off is right at the terminal, making it suitable for travelers with elderly passengers or heavy luggage.
