Marriott / MGM properties question….

Hi,

So I have 1 comped room already, but I need another one.

Planning to book a room using Marriott points, which I have never done. Looking at either NYNY or Cosmo.

Question is: if you book a room using points, are you still responsible for taxes and resort fees?

Thanks

When you book a room using Marriott points at properties like NYNY or the Cosmopolitan (Cosmo), you are still responsible for taxes and resort fees. Even though the room itself is comped through your points redemption, resort fees are typically not covered by points and must be paid separately. These fees can include amenities such as Wi-Fi, gym access, and others, and they are charged on a per-night basis.

Key points to note:

  • Taxes: You will still need to pay applicable taxes on the room rate, even when redeeming Marriott points. Taxes are calculated based on the regular room rate and will vary depending on the property and location.
  • Resort Fees: Resort fees are not covered by Marriott points and are charged directly by the hotel. You’ll need to pay these fees upon check-in or check-out, depending on the hotel's policy.
  • Booking Process: When booking a room with Marriott points, you can see the room rate in points, but be sure to check the "additional charges" section, which will clarify the resort fees and taxes you need to pay.

It’s always a good idea to double-check the terms and conditions of your points booking, as policies can vary slightly between properties. If you need more specific details on resort fees and taxes for NYNY or the Cosmo, it's best to contact the property directly or review your booking confirmation.
