How easy to grab DiDi from these hot attractions?
Hey guys,, i’m planning to visit Terracotta Mausoleum in Xi’an and the Longmen Grottoes this fall, and as the title suggests, I’m hoping that Didi would be a reliable service for both of ‘em even with the crowds.
Do these 2 locations have a Designated area for Didi
( pickup and drop off)…
What are your experiences?
Thanks in advance..
Btw, been to China last year (1st time) but i only used the Metro.
Visiting major tourist sites like the Terracotta Army (Mausoleum) in Xi’an and the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang can be convenient with Didi, but there are a few important considerations to keep in mind.
Here’s an overview of what to expect:
- Designated pickup/drop-off areas: Both sites generally have official parking or drop-off zones for private cars and ride-hailing services. At the Terracotta Army, Didi and other app-based cars usually pick up and drop off near the main entrance parking lot. Longmen Grottoes also has a main entrance area where Didi can meet passengers, but it may be slightly farther from the main grotto sites, requiring a short walk.
- Availability: At peak hours or weekends, especially during the tourist season (spring and autumn), you may find that Didi wait times are longer. For Terracotta Army, rides are generally available within 5–15 minutes. For Longmen Grottoes, since it is less crowded, Didi is usually available within 10 minutes.
- Crowd impact: Large crowds can occasionally make pickup slightly slower, and drivers might wait outside the official parking zones if these are full. It is recommended to check the pickup point in the app and communicate with the driver via the Didi chat feature to avoid confusion.
Tips for smooth Didi usage at these attractions:
- Always confirm the exact pickup location with your driver; these sites have multiple entrances or bus drop zones.
- If traveling early in the morning, it’s usually easier to grab a Didi as fewer tourists are around.
- Have the address in Chinese ready in the app to ensure drivers understand your destination clearly.
- Consider pre-booking a Didi in advance if you want to ensure a pickup at a specific time, though same-day hailing usually works fine.
Overall, using Didi at both the Terracotta Army and Longmen Grottoes is quite feasible, and many travelers rely on it successfully. Just allow a few extra minutes for pickup during peak tourist times, and keep your destination clearly set in the app.
