Hong Kong weather (Early December)

Hi everyone!

We’re travelling on the last week of November to first week of December this year.

Just wondering what should be the clothing during this season? Travelling with my mom so I want to plan ahead.

Will it be cold to need a coat or what type of jacket?

Can we still wear sandals or only shoes/boots?

I hope you can share your experience!

Thanks

Traveling to Hong Kong in late November to early December usually means mild and comfortable weather, but it can feel cool, especially in the mornings and evenings. Planning clothing for this season is important, particularly when traveling with an older family member.

Temperature and Weather

  • Average daytime temperature: 18–23°C (64–73°F).
  • Average nighttime temperature: 14–18°C (57–64°F).
  • Humidity is lower than in summer, making the air feel cooler but generally comfortable.
  • Rainfall is minimal compared to spring and summer, but occasional light showers can occur.

Clothing Recommendations

  • Light to medium layers: Long-sleeve shirts, sweaters, or thin fleece layers for the daytime.
  • A warm jacket or coat: A medium-weight jacket or windbreaker is sufficient; mornings and evenings can feel chilly.
  • Comfortable pants or jeans: Suitable for walking and sightseeing.
  • Footwear: Closed-toe shoes or light boots are recommended. Sandals are not ideal because it can be cool and streets may be damp.
  • Optional accessories: A scarf or light shawl for additional warmth for your mom, especially in the evening.

Additional Tips

  • Layering is key: You can remove a layer during the warmer daytime hours and put it back on when temperatures drop.
  • Umbrella or raincoat: While heavy rain is uncommon, a small umbrella can be handy.
  • Check local weather forecast a few days before traveling for precise planning.

Overall, you won’t need heavy winter coats, but a medium jacket with layers underneath will keep both you and your mom comfortable. Closed shoes or light boots are preferable to sandals due to the cooler temperatures and walking requirements in the city.
