Muso do sights etc

Coming to san diego today for a few nights before moving g on to vegas .coming from l a and san francisco so have gad a busy couple of weeks so was hoping to just chill for a couple of days .However what would be the one thing we must dosee whilst there .or maybe would we be better doing the hop on hop off bus .staying shelter island .

Since you’re coming to San Diego for a few nights and want to relax after a busy couple of weeks, staying on Shelter Island is a great choice—it’s scenic, quieter than downtown, and still close to many attractions. With limited time, here’s how to make the most of your visit without feeling rushed.

If you had to pick one “must-see” attraction in San Diego, most visitors and locals would recommend Balboa Park. It’s the cultural heart of the city, with museums, gardens, and iconic Spanish-style architecture. Even a short stroll through the park gives a wonderful sense of the city, and it’s very photogenic.

However, if your priority is more sightseeing with minimal effort, a Hop-On Hop-Off bus could be a good option. It allows you to see a variety of neighborhoods and landmarks without worrying about parking or navigating. You can tailor the stops to your interests and relax between destinations.

  • Balboa Park – Ideal for gardens, museums, and short walks. Even one or two highlights can be done in a few hours.
  • USS Midway Museum – If you enjoy history or naval vessels, this aircraft carrier museum is close to downtown and offers great views of the harbor.
  • La Jolla Cove – Beautiful coastline and sea lions; perfect if you prefer outdoor sights and light walking.

Since you’re on Shelter Island, you also have quick access to waterfront activities and casual dining:

  • Sunset drinks or dinner at a waterfront restaurant – The island has several excellent spots where you can relax and enjoy the view.
  • Walk along the marina – Easy and flat, ideal for a gentle stroll and photography.
  • Harbor cruises – A short cruise can give you a scenic overview of San Diego Bay without much effort.

Overall, if your goal is to chill, you might combine a short visit to Balboa Park or La Jolla with relaxing waterfront time on Shelter Island. The Hop-On Hop-Off bus is convenient if you want to see a broad range of sights in a limited time without walking too much.
