When planning a 3-day stay in Chengdu with the goal of exploring night markets and having convenient access to the high-speed train to Jiuzhaigou, choosing the right neighborhood is important for both nightlife and transportation.

Here is a breakdown of the areas you mentioned:

  • Chunxi Road: This is the main shopping district of Chengdu, bustling with department stores, malls, restaurants, and bars. Nightlife is lively and there are plenty of supper options. It is well connected via metro lines, making it convenient for getting to Chengdu East or Chengdu Railway Station for high-speed trains.
  • Jinli Ancient Street: Famous for its traditional architecture, street food, and souvenirs. Night markets are active here, but the area can get very crowded in the evenings. It is slightly less convenient for catching high-speed trains since Chengdu East is a short taxi or metro ride away, but manageable.
  • Wide & Narrow Alleys (Kuan & Zhai Xiangzi): A scenic area with traditional courtyard-style lanes, cafes, and small restaurants. Evening activity is pleasant, though slightly quieter than Chunxi or Jinli. Metro access is available, but a taxi may be needed to reach Chengdu East Station efficiently for trains.
  • Jianshe Alley (Jianshe Road area): This is a more local neighborhood, less touristy, but has night market food stalls and local eateries. Convenient for experiencing authentic Chengdu life but less connected to the main transport hubs for high-speed trains.

Practical suggestions:

  • If you prioritize nightlife, supper options, and being in the middle of the city, Chunxi Road is the best choice. It offers excellent metro access and is easiest for catching high-speed trains.
  • If your goal is more scenic or cultural experience while still having food options, Jinli or Wide & Narrow Alleys work well, but plan extra travel time to the train station.
  • For authentic local experience and quieter nights, Jianshe Alley is suitable, though slightly less convenient for transportation.

In conclusion, for a balance of night market convenience and easy access to Chengdu East for your train to Jiuzhaigou, staying around Chunxi Road is recommended. Jinli or Wide & Narrow Alleys are good alternatives if you want a more traditional feel and are comfortable with a short metro or taxi ride to the station.
