Airport to downtown

we arrive on Sunday to Denver and need to get to Hampton Inn and suites convention center. I’ve seen some comments about the train but how close does that bring us to the hotel? Walking distance? Or is there some connection at the train station that would get us closer? Is the train easy to find in the airport?

I’d appreciate any advice! Thank you!

Denver International Airport (DEN) has a very convenient light rail connection to downtown Denver via the A Line, which is part of the Regional Transportation District (RTD) system. The train is located directly in the airport’s Transit Center, which is accessible from the Jeppesen Terminal. Follow signs for “Train to Union Station / RTD Rail” — it’s well-marked and easy to find after baggage claim.

Here’s how it works for getting to your hotel:

  • Step 1: Board the A Line toward Union Station in downtown Denver. Trains run roughly every 15–30 minutes, and the ride takes about 37–40 minutes from the airport to Union Station.
  • Step 2: Once at Union Station, the Hampton Inn & Suites Denver Downtown Convention Center is about 0.7 miles east of the station — roughly a 12–15 minute walk. Walking is straightforward: head east on W 14th Ave, then south on Welton Street, or use a map app for the most direct route.
  • Step 3 (optional): If you prefer not to walk with luggage, you can grab a short Lyft/Uber or taxi ride from Union Station to the hotel; it’s less than 5 minutes.

Additional tips:

  • The train station is inside the airport, so you don’t need to leave the terminal — just follow the signs from baggage claim.
  • Tickets can be purchased at vending machines at the airport station. A one-way adult fare is typically around $10.50, cash or card accepted.
  • During busy travel times, trains can get crowded, but the service is frequent and reliable. Sunday service is usually a bit lighter than weekday rush hours.
  • If you have a lot of luggage, consider the optional short ride from Union Station to the hotel — it’s only a few minutes and avoids walking through downtown streets with bags.

In summary: The train is easy to find at the airport, brings you directly to downtown Denver, and your hotel is walkable from Union Station, though a short ride is also convenient if preferred. It’s generally faster, cheaper, and easier than taking a taxi or rideshare directly from the airport.
