Hello, myself and family are holidaying near Laguna. On sat we planted go to Hollywood and then to the the LA Galaxy matching the evening. I know there is a park and ride from Del Amo for the match, but does anyone know if that park and ride is open for the whole day that I could use late morning to get train into Union? Plan to then get train back there for free bus to stadium and drive back after match
Does all of the above seem do-able?
Cheers everyone, Trevor
Trevor, your plan to use the park-and-ride at Del Amo and combine it with train travel and shuttle to the LA Galaxy match is generally doable, but there are a few important details and tips to consider to ensure smooth execution.
First, the Del Amo station is part of the Metro Rail system, and the park-and-ride lots are primarily designed for commuters. Most of these lots open early in the morning and remain available until late evening, but availability can vary on weekends and special event days, such as soccer matches, when lots may fill quickly. Using the lot late in the morning for a trip into Union Station is usually possible, but arriving early increases your chances of securing a space.
Once parked, you can take the Metro Green Line from Del Amo to connect with other lines to reach Union Station. The trip will involve a transfer, typically from the Green Line to the Blue or Expo Line depending on your route, so plan for roughly 60–75 minutes travel time from Del Amo to Union Station. Make sure to check the schedule in advance to coordinate with your Hollywood sightseeing.
After exploring Hollywood, taking the train back to Del Amo and using the free shuttle to the stadium for the LA Galaxy match is a viable strategy. The Metro and associated shuttles are accustomed to handling event traffic, but allow extra time for lines and bus transfers, especially during high-traffic game nights.
Overall, your plan is doable with proper timing and a bit of flexibility. Arriving at Del Amo early, planning train transfers carefully, and allowing extra time for shuttles to the stadium will help make the day run smoothly. It’s a smart way to combine sightseeing, event attendance, and avoiding downtown LA traffic.
