Kasa Little Italy

Hi,

We are thinking about staying here. I am fuzzy from trying to work out where would suit us best but this one came up and is ideal as we can have a more apartment style for our family.

Does anyone know this or has stayed there? Is this a safe area where we can go out at night and walk?

We don't plan to hire a car and I have looked at public transport but if anyone can also tell me if this area is well connected to get about the city that would be helpful too. We can only be in SD for five days so I want to make sure we see as much of the museums/zoo/cultural places we can and our kids (early 20s) will want a day to shop a mall and some quirky/vintage/thrift shops.

Does Kasa sound Ok for this?

Kasa Little Italy is a great option if you’re looking for an apartment-style stay in San Diego. Little Italy is one of the city’s most vibrant and walkable neighborhoods, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, gelaterias, and nightlife. The area is generally considered safe, and walking around at night is common, especially along the main streets like India Street and around the plazas.

Being in Little Italy also offers strong public transport connections. You can access buses, trolleys, and shuttles from nearby stops, making it relatively easy to reach popular destinations without a car:

  • The San Diego Trolley (Green Line) can connect you to places like Old Town and Downtown.
  • Several bus routes run through or near Little Italy, connecting to Balboa Park, the Zoo, and other neighborhoods.
  • For shorter trips, rideshare options (Uber/Lyft) are plentiful and convenient in this area.

For your five-day itinerary, staying here will allow you to explore a mix of cultural, shopping, and recreational activities:

  • Museums and cultural spots: Balboa Park, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Fleet Science Center are reachable by bus or a short rideshare.
  • Zoo: The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, about 20–25 minutes via rideshare or public transit from Little Italy.
  • Shopping and quirky shops: Little Italy itself has boutique shops, but you can take public transit or a quick drive to Hillcrest, North Park, or Fashion Valley Mall for a mix of vintage, thrift, and modern retail.

Overall, Kasa Little Italy is a convenient and safe base for families or small groups, especially if you want a more apartment-like feel. It provides easy access to public transportation, walking-friendly streets, and plenty of dining and cultural options. For a trip with early 20s kids who enjoy shopping and exploring, this location balances safety, convenience, and local charm very well.
