Hotels

Coming for a short visit 3 nights to visit family on Christmas Day. Then take high speed train to HK.

Family lives in Baiyun area 白雲區 and have suggested the Hong Ye Hotel. https://maps.app.goo.gl/oVaCiM2QP2mRWCcD9?g_st=ipc But I am not sure it will meet my standards. 😬

I want to stay in Tianhe in the new city by train station. But can’t really tell which one would be convenient with malls or other things walking distance and not just a hotel block.

Looking at Marriott, Westin. Holiday Inn. Also looking at 广州建国酒店 Jianguo Hotel Guangzhou much closer to train station.

For a short stay in Guangzhou, choosing a hotel depends on whether you prioritize convenience to family in Baiyun, proximity to the high-speed train station, or access to shopping and dining in the modern city area (Tianhe).

Here’s a breakdown of your options:

  • Hong Ye Hotel (Baiyun area): Convenient if you’ll spend most of your time with family. The area is more residential and less vibrant for tourists, with limited shopping or walking-distance attractions. Rooms may be basic compared to international brands.
  • Tianhe area (near Guangzhou East or South Railway Station): This is the new city center with shopping malls, restaurants, and modern facilities. Staying here gives you easier access to malls like Taikoo Hui, Grandview Mall, and the lively Zhujiang New Town area. Hotels like Marriott, Westin, or Holiday Inn are upscale, comfortable, and centrally located. Walking distance to malls and metro stations is convenient.
  • Guangzhou Jianguo Hotel (near train station): Very convenient for catching high-speed trains to Hong Kong. It’s a mid- to upscale hotel with easy transport connections, but the surrounding area may have fewer entertainment options than Tianhe’s shopping districts.

Suggestions based on priorities:

  • If you want to maximize comfort, dining, and shopping in walking distance: choose a Tianhe hotel like Marriott, Westin, or Holiday Inn.
  • If convenience for family in Baiyun is key: Hong Ye Hotel is closest, but expect simpler accommodations.
  • If your main concern is quick access to the train station for your onward journey to Hong Kong: Jianguo Hotel is the best choice.

Overall, for a short stay where you also want some city exploration, Tianhe is probably the best compromise between comfort, shopping, dining, and easy transport.
