From Airport to Bigbus Routes

Hello

Can someone kindly let me know how to get to Bigbus Green Route from the airport? I have 15 hr transit in Hongkong and I am planning to take red and green route, it looks like they cross each route at few points.

With a 15-hour transit at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), you have enough time to explore the city and use the Big Bus Tours on both the Green and Red routes. Here’s how to connect from the airport and plan your sightseeing.

1. Getting from HKIA to Big Bus Green Route

The Big Bus Green Route operates primarily around Central, Admiralty, and Wan Chai areas. From the airport:

  • Airport Express Train: Take the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station (Central). The journey takes about 24 minutes. From Hong Kong Station, the Green Route Big Bus stops are within walking distance at Connaught Road Central or Queen’s Road Central.
  • Taxi or Didi: A taxi ride from the airport to Central takes around 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic. This can be convenient if you have luggage or prefer a direct transfer.
  • Bus / Shuttle: You can take Cityflyer Airport Bus (A11) to Central (Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal area) which is near some Green Route stops. This is slower (around 45–60 minutes) but cheaper.

2. Using Big Bus Routes

  • The Red Route covers Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, and some Victoria Harbour attractions.
  • The Green Route covers Central, Admiralty, and Wan Chai districts.
  • You can interchange between Red and Green routes at stops where the routes cross, such as Exchange Square, Central Ferry Piers, or Star Ferry Tsim Sha Tsui. This allows you to see key attractions across both sides of Victoria Harbour.

3. Planning Your Transit Day

  • Allow at least 1.5–2 hours to return to the airport and pass security, so plan your city visit accordingly.
  • Purchase Big Bus tickets online or at any major stop for convenience. Tickets are usually valid for 24 or 48 hours and allow hopping between routes.
  • Use the Airport Express Octopus ticket or transport card for smooth transfers between train, bus, and ferry if needed.
  • Keep an eye on traffic and ferry schedules if you plan to cross between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island to use both routes.

In summary, from HKIA, the fastest way to reach the Green Route is via the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station, then walk to a nearby Green Route stop. From there, you can hop between Green and Red routes to see key sights, making the most of your 15-hour transit in Hong Kong.
