Brunch near City Hall

I had to drop by City Hall this week and sought out some place to grab a meal nearby.

City Hall is well worth stopping by if you are in the area.

Now normally I’d head back toward Hayes Valley but after searching online I found a restaurant called Peacock Pansy that is only open until 2pm during the week.

I’ve read that it can be packed on weekends but only a few tables were taken when I walked in.

It’s a very instagrammable place - giant butterfly wall sculpture with a fake flower wall and neon sign. It’s all very colorful.

I splurged my calories in one of the specials, ube crème brûlée French toast.

Delicious. I’ll definitely go back.

I did add a full review that is pending but thought I’d share.

If you’re near San Francisco City Hall and looking for brunch options, Peacock Pansy is a great choice, especially if you want a visually fun and colorful environment. It’s known for its vibrant interior, including a giant butterfly wall sculpture, a fake flower wall, and neon signs, making it a perfect spot for photos. The restaurant is open until 2pm during the week, so it’s ideal for a late morning or early lunch.

Menu highlights are creative and indulgent; for instance, their ube crème brûlée French toast is a popular special and highly recommended for a sweet brunch treat. Portions are generous, and the presentation is playful, which adds to the overall experience.

If you want alternatives nearby, you have several options within walking distance from City Hall or a short drive away. Some recommendations include:

  • Plow – Known for hearty, classic American breakfast and brunch dishes with fresh ingredients.
  • Zazie – A cozy French-style bistro in Cole Valley, famous for pancakes, eggs benedict, and outdoor seating.
  • Jane on Larkin – Modern American breakfast spot with sandwiches, pastries, and good coffee.

For a slightly trendier vibe similar to Peacock Pansy but with a larger menu, you could explore Hayes Valley, which is a 10–15 minute walk or short drive. Options include:

  • Absinthe Brasserie & Bar – Offers both brunch and lunch with French-inspired dishes.
  • Smitten Ice Cream – If you want a unique twist on brunch desserts or a light sweet treat after a meal.
  • Piccino – Small café with pastries, coffee, and light bites.

Overall, if your schedule allows, Peacock Pansy is perfect for a quick, Instagram-worthy brunch near City Hall. Otherwise, Hayes Valley and the surrounding Civic Center neighborhoods offer a mix of classic and trendy brunch spots suitable for both casual and slightly indulgent meals.
