A Tale of Two Cities in Belgium: Getting tipsy in the bustle of Brussels and intoxicated in the tranquility of Bruges.
—
🚉 Brussels
During the self-driving trip, I chose to stop at Sint-Niklaas and stayed at the quiet and elegant Hotel Serwir.
The next morning, I left my car at the hotel and took the train into the city. The capital welcomed me with graffiti and rhythm.
—
🏛 Grand Place
The sun shines on the golden buildings, like a symphony of history and light.
Sitting in the open-air seats, the beer foam sparkles on the edge of the cup. This city is full of poetry even when tipsy.
—
👦 Peeing Boy
He still stands quietly on the corner, without too many decorations, but always makes people smile.
This playfulness is the daily life of Brussels.
—
🏛 Saint-Hubert Gallery
Under the glass dome, it is the most elegant afternoon.
Chocolate, ancient books and sunshine make up the sweetest page.
—
🍽 For dinner, I chose Lobster House in the city.
The restaurant is not fancy, but it is exquisite in every detail. The prawns, lobsters, and seafood platters are as fresh as if they were just caught from the North Sea.
I paired it with a glass of cold white wine and had a quiet dinner in the soft yellow light that made people not want to leave.
—
🚪 Bruges
After leaving the capital, I turned to the city that really made me unforgettable-Bruges.
The temperament of this city is different from any other place. It is not in a hurry to please you, but it can easily capture your heart inadvertently.
I stayed at Hotel Olympia in the alley. The room is simple but comfortable, just like the city itself, not showy, not talkative, but warm.
—
🪟 Cobblestone Road and Red Brick House
There is no hustle and bustle of the city here, and every step is stepped on the softness of time.
The red brick roofs and mottled walls are shining in the afternoon sun, and even the shadows seem to be painted.
—
⛪️ Basilica of the Holy Blood
I walked into this church, which is said to house the holy blood of Jesus. The light shines through the stained glass windows and falls on the ancient stone pillars. The whole space is as quiet as prayer itself.
I am not a devout believer, but I also feel the respect and tranquility that transcends religion.
—
🚌 City Tour Bus Citytour
There are cruise ships and horse-drawn carriages on the streets of Bruges, but I chose to take the Citytour Bus.
Go around the city at a slow pace, listen to the explanations in the guide headphones, and let your eyes and mood slowly sink into the story of this city.
—
🧇 House of Waffles
Finally, end the day at a dessert shop that I have long collected.
House of Waffles is not only crispy and dense, but also has various interesting illustrations on the wall-
A little humorous, a little naughty, a little crazy, like the expression secretly revealed by this city.
—
📝 Conclusion
If Brussels is a golden prologue, then Bruges is a handwritten love letter that I read again and again.
It is not gorgeously laid out, but every word is written into my heart.
After walking around Belgium, Bruges is the place I least want to leave.
I can't say which moment I fell in love with it, maybe it was the light in the church, maybe it was the eaves reflected outside the car window,
or maybe it was the small shop with strange cartoons hanging on it and the aroma of waffles filling the air.
In Bruges, I really want to stop and have a good rest.
No need to think or rush, just simply enjoy the perfect distance between me and the city.
