Goryokaku Intensive Exploration and History Course
This course delves into the historical significance and unique architectural beauty of Goryokaku and explores the history of the late Edo period, which marked the end of the Battle of Hakodate.
• Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Stargazing at Goryokaku
• 9:00 AM: Arrive at Goryokaku Tower and ascend the Goryokaku Tower. From the 107-meter-high observation deck, you'll enjoy a panoramic view of Goryokaku's iconic star-shaped fortifications. Explore the "Goryokaku Historical Corridor" within the tower to learn about the fort's construction history and the Battle of Hakodate.
• 11:00 AM: Descend to Goryokaku Park and walk along the star-shaped moat, experiencing the fort's grandeur firsthand. • Lunch (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM): Gourmet Food Around the Tower
• Enjoy Hakodate's famous shio ramen (salt ramen) or fresh seafood dishes at a restaurant on the second floor of Goryokaku Tower or in the surrounding shopping district.
• Afternoon (1:30 PM - 4:00 PM): Explore the Hakodate Magistrate's Office
• Head to the Hakodate Magistrate's Office, located at the center of the castle walls. This building is a traditional replica of the administrative office that governed Hokkaido during the late Edo period. Tour the interior to get a glimpse into the lifestyle and administrative processes of the time.
• Late Afternoon (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM): Explore the remains of old cannons and historical monuments scattered throughout Goryokaku Park. Depending on the season, enjoy a boat ride or take in the beautiful natural scenery, including cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and snow.
