K2 Mountain

K2, also known as Mount Godwin-Austen or Chhogori, is the second-highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest. Altitude: 8,611 meters (28,251 ft). Located on the Pakistan-China border, in the Karakoram Range (part of the Greater Himalayas). Coordinates Approximately 35°52′57″N 76°30′48″E. First ascent July 31, 1954, by Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni. K2 is often called the "Savage Mountain" because of its extreme difficulty and high fatality rate.
Compared to Everest, K2 is steeper, more prone to avalanches and storms, and less commercialized, meaning fewer fixed ropes and logistical support. Weather can change suddenly, and the summit can only be reached in very short periods of time under good conditions.
