A Peruvian Travel Review Capturing the Breath of the Andes

#August Travel Grant

From the moment I arrived in Peru, I was enveloped in a unique atmosphere. The Lima coastline offered a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and cliffs, and savoring ceviche, a local favorite, allowed me to experience the true flavor of South America.

The highlights of my trip were, of course, Cusco and Machu Picchu. Cusco, a highland city perched over 3,000 meters above sea level, showcased a harmonious blend of Incan and Spanish colonial influences. Strolling along the cobblestone streets, I found small cafes and craft shops, captivating travelers.

Arriving at Machu Picchu was a breathtaking experience. The ruins of the ancient city, shrouded in mist, seemed alive and vibrant, transcending millennia. Having arrived at the crack of dawn, I was able to witness the sunlight slowly filtering through the mountains and settling on the Incan temples. That moment alone made me forget the fatigue of the long flight and the altitude.

Another attraction was the Amazon region. In the jungle, I was able to experience the vitality of nature, a force unseen in the city. The moment I felt the birdsong, the river, and the humid air with my whole body is unforgettable.

Peru was not just a travel destination; it was a living history, where ancient and modern, nature and people coexisted. On my way back, the fresh Andean breeze and the mystery of the Incas still lingered in my mind.
