The Peranakan Museum currently features a special exhibition on Peranakan (Straits Chinese) costumes, running until August. It showcases exquisite embroidered fabrics, natural dyes, and finely tailored garments, telling the stories of three Peranakan women. “Peranakan” refers to locally born people of mixed Chinese and Malay/Indonesian heritage.
Visitors can also enjoy interactive games via mobile QR codes to design patterns and receive matching bookmarks at the reception. The museum’s permanent collection includes beautiful beadwork, ceramics, furniture, and costumes, with special highlights like the “Chui Yuan” plaque from the TV drama The Little Nyonya.
The museum’s souvenir shop is filled with vibrant Peranakan-style stationery, including washi tapes and postcards — perfect keepsakes! Students studying in Singapore can often enter free of charge. It’s a must-visit for those interested in Southeast Asia’s rich cultural heritage. #singapore
