"You Don't Know About Universal Studios Beijing"! Here's a practical guide for your hands-on experience.
Universal Studios Beijing is officially opening on September 20th! No need to travel across the ocean, you can enjoy Universal theme parks right here in Tongzhou, Beijing. It's what so many people are looking forward to! Universal Studios Beijing is the fifth Universal Studios in the world and the largest, nearly four times the size of Shanghai Disneyland. It's said to have been 20 years in the making, featuring seven themed areas: Hollywood, Waterworld, Transformers: Underground, Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Minions. These include 37 rides, 24 entertainment performances, 80 restaurants, and 30 retail outlets, spread over a total area of over 4 square kilometers.
It happened to be in its trial operation recently, and I was invited to experience it firsthand. It took me 10 hours and over 20,000 steps to get my hands on most of the attractions. Thanks to my perfect route and timeline, I was able to see everything I wanted to see, including a few shows and a float parade. It was a truly perfect day. We've compiled a practical guide for Universal Studios Beijing for your reference!
1. Pre-registration
First, you'll need the official "Universal Beijing Resort" app (search and download from your mobile app store) or the official WeChat mini-program.
This app serves two purposes:
1. Purchase tickets, purchase Premium Passes, and upload photos for facial recognition entry.
2. Navigate the park and check wait times for various attractions and show start times.
Tip: Upload a photo in advance and scan the QR code for direct entry. If possible, purchase a Premium Pass to avoid long lines. Alternatively, plan your itinerary based on queue times indicated by the app. Prioritize attractions with scheduled performances, and consider other rides as appropriate based on your itinerary.
What to Bring:
Note: Drones, large video cameras, and tripods are not permitted in the park. Some rides require bag storage and security checks. We recommend a small backpack for your regular camera, action camera, and a selfie stick stabilizer. During the entrance security check, you may be asked to open your bag for inspection if you suspect any prohibited items, such as certain foods and beverages (alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, and self-heating instant foods are prohibited). Too many cameras and tripods can also cause problems. Oversized backpacks may not fit into the self-service lockers (there are no manual check-ins). Universal Beijing Resort is adjacent to the ride-hailing/taxi exits for the ride-hailing/taxi pickup and drop-off areas.
II. Transportation
Driving
There are two exits at Tianjiafu Station on the Beijing-Harbin Expressway and Zhangjiawan North Station on the Sixth Ring Road. Those driving, taking taxis, ride-hailing services, or taking tour buses can enter Universal Beijing Resort from these exits.
Universal Beijing Resort has three large parking areas that can accommodate tens of thousands of vehicles simultaneously.
By plane
Universal Beijing Resort is connected to Beijing Capital International Airport, Beijing Daxing International Airport, Beijing Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, and Beijing South Railway Station via rail transit. Visitors arriving in Beijing by plane or train can quickly transfer to rail transit.
Subway
Universal Beijing Resort Station is a supporting construction project for Universal Beijing Resort and connects to Beijing Metro Line 7 and Batong Line. Visitors to Universal Beijing Resort can take the subway to this station and walk approximately 7 minutes from Exits B, C, or D to the security checkpoint at the Universal CityWalk Beijing entrance.
Bus
Visitors can take bus lines 589 and T116 to Universal Beijing Resort.
Tip:
If you're driving or taking a taxi, be sure not to locate Universal Beijing Resort directly! It's easy to get lost or end up at the construction site gate. It's recommended to locate your destination at the Universal Beijing Resort online taxi pickup/drop-off area. Use this location for your return trip. Please arrange with the driver to park nearby or near pillar number B.
Third, Experience
After security checks and health code verification, you'll first arrive at Universal Beijing Resort CityWalk. Admission is free! No reservations are required! The avenue is lined with restaurants, shops, exhibition halls, and cinemas. For a relaxing breakfast, options include Peet's Coffee, Neon Market, or KFC.
After walking through City Boulevard, the first thing that catches your eye is the Universal Earth. It's very famous, and many people are constantly snapping photos of it. But don't linger here too long, because the real paradise is inside.
Scan your ID card or facial recognition to enter the park and explore the seven themed areas. How do you enjoy the seven theme parks? ! You can follow the itinerary and experience the attractions in sequence. It's best to purchase a Premium Pass, otherwise long lines will delay your time at the shows. If you don't have a Premium Pass, check the official app or mini-program to plan your itinerary based on show times and ride queues.
Hollywood
Entering the park, visitors are greeted by Los Angeles' Hollywood and Walk of Fame, imagining themselves on the star-studded Hollywood Boulevard. Strolling among towering palm trees, visitors immerse themselves in classic Hollywood scenes, and may even encounter movie stars. The Hollywood area, known as the "palace of world cinema," recreates iconic Hollywood buildings and offers a wide variety of themed restaurants and shopping experiences. The Pantaiji Theater in the scenic area presents "Lights, Camera, Action!", a collaboration between directors Zhang Yimou and Steven Spielberg. Simulating typhoons, heavy rain, and fire, the film's filming scenes are brought to life with stunning realism. In addition, the Globe Theatre, which combines Chinese style with classic Hollywood elements, hosts not only the regular performance of the stage play "Untamed" but also film premieres, speeches and many other exciting special events.
Transformers Metrobase
Bumblebee Gyrocopter: Transform into a DJ and jump into a Mini Kong to help Bumblebee complete missions!
Here, Metrobase, working with outstanding Chinese scientists, has selected a site rich in energy crystals in the suburbs of Beijing as the Beijing headquarters of the Nest Force NEST. In this top-secret, ultra-high-tech zone, humans and Autobots form an alliance to protect Earth.
Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness
The Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness theme park is inspired by the animated film series "Kung Fu Panda." Guests will join Po on his journey to become a martial arts master. Visiting Kung Fu Panda feels like returning to a happy hometown! Located in the hallway, this fully indoor setting offers plenty of air conditioning and a place to eat, making it a perfect energy refueling station! Enjoy the rich aroma of Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop or experience the magic of Kung Fu on a journey with the Dragon Warrior.
Designed around a "Chinese legendary experience," this all-indoor attraction will be the world's first "Kung Fu Panda"-themed attraction. Here, visitors will be surrounded by numerous attractions featuring authentic Chinese elements, including the Jade Palace, Panda Village, and the Peach Tree of Wisdom, all beloved by "Kung Fu Panda" fans.
In this idyllic ancient land, dreams of becoming heroes can come true for both adults and children. Now's your chance! Join Po in his fight for the Valley of Peace!
WaterWorld
At WaterWorld, you can watch Universal Studios' water-blasting stunt show. From thrilling jet ski dives to heart-pounding airplane crashes, the show's realistic performances and breathtaking stunts immerse visitors in a thrilling "water battle." This is a unique attraction in Beijing and a must-see! However, the show has fixed times, so remember to arrive half an hour early to avoid missing a seat.
The seats are also color-coded: blue for soaking wet, green for semi-wet, and red for not wet. But aside from the front and center, the rest of the area isn't too wet! Raincoats are available for sale for $60, but you don't really need to buy them. If you're looking for a thrill, you can sit in the front row, interact with the staff, and receive a unique water-splashing welcome. Having previously experienced it up close at Universal Studios Hollywood, I skipped the lines this time. Besides the stunts, there are also unique themed dining and entertainment experiences outside the venue. The Wandering Beats band's performance was also fantastic, incorporating various elements, including percussion instruments, into the live music. The most anticipated theme park for fans - enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The most anticipated theme park for fans - enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. From afar, you can see snow-capped rooftops, icicles of varying lengths dotting the corners of snow-covered eaves, and cobblestone streets. Every detail in the scenic area recreates a real-life wizarding world. Harry Potter fans flock from all over to play with wands, wear robes, and drink Butterbeer. To reach Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, you must first enter Platform 9 of the station. If you're lucky or possess magical powers, you'll find the conductor of the Hogwarts Express. Your first visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter might seem a bit overwhelming, but don't worry; the conductor will provide a detailed introduction to the famous attractions and hidden gems of the Wizarding World. Before embarking on your adventure, take a photo with our train conductor! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is filled with innovative attractions, shops, restaurants, and entertainment. From magical spells to magical creatures, from dark villains to brave heroes, you can see it all here. Here, you can explore Hogwarts Castle, shop in Hogsmeade's street shops, and enjoy delicious food and desserts at some of the most famous restaurants in the wizarding world. The scenic area recreates a magical world in every detail, leading visitors to the magical world they have once experienced in novels or movies. There are three experiential attractions in the Harry Potter land: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff, and Ollivanders.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is an immersive 4D film where you'll be transported by Harry Potter on a broomstick. It's incredibly thrilling! It features recreated scenes from Hogwarts, including wall paintings, the Sorting Hat, and the Headmaster's office. This 5-minute immersive experience is incredibly realistic, perfectly recreating the film's setting. Follow Harry through the corridors and classrooms of the wizarding school, soar through the castle, and even participate in a Quidditch match, fending off Dementors. This ride requires luggage storage, but only self-service lockers are available, using facial recognition. The space is limited, and can only accommodate a maximum of a 27-liter backpack.
Flight of the Hippogriff is a simple and peaceful roller coaster ride. If you're in a hurry to check in on other attractions, it's worth skipping.
Olivanders is the wand house show. Ollivanders' history dates back to 382 BC, and they've been a leading wand manufacturer ever since! Here, you'll have the opportunity to witness the wand choose its wizard firsthand. Experienced foreign wizards will perform magic. This feature isn't available with Premium Passes, and you can forgo it if the lines are too long. Also, at Ollivander's, a wand curator will select a special wand for one lucky visitor. You can also choose from wands from famous names like Harry Potter, Hermione, and Voldemort. If you buy a wand, don't leave it in the box; hold it in your hand! Immerse yourself in it! Don't forget to use the map to find the "magic" locations throughout the village; there are Easter eggs in almost every window. Throughout the park, many children, young and old, were seen holding wands and wearing Hogwarts robes. For a truly immersive experience, get in line early—the lines can be long, whether you're buying or trying on the items for photos.
After a bit of fun, you can dine at the Three Broomsticks restaurant or try on Butterbeer. Butterbeer is a must-try at Universal Studios Beijing these days, as it's a popular drink from the Harry Potter films. Can you imagine the joy of sipping Butterbeer and eating barbecued ribs at the Three Broomsticks at Hogwarts? Be sure to eat outside, right next to the Black Lake and the castle! Butterbeer is available at two price points: 50 yuan for a regular glass, and 80 yuan for a special glass, available with or without ice. The regular Butterbeer is the best, but it would be even better with the salty milk cap. After a satisfying meal, enjoy a performance by the Frog Choir, a chorus of Hogwarts students and frogs. There's also a pep rally for the Triwizard Tournament, where the handsome men and beautiful women are a real treat. Standing at the heart of the park, Hogwarts Castle stands 47 meters tall, the second tallest building in the park. Entering this enigmatic structure, you'll leave the Muggle world behind and transform into a wizard. At night, the highlight is the Hogwarts Castle Night Lights Celebration. Dusted in dazzling starlight, the four houses, including Llyffindor and Hufflepuff, are illuminated by magical lights to the backdrop of classic music. The lights and shadows on the castle change with the music, showcasing the four Hogwarts houses in their respective styles. The magical colors and dazzling lights add a touch of mystery to the towering castle. I highly recommend you and the whole family come back here for another magical visual feast in the evening!
Minion Land
Next, head straight to Minion Land, a colorful world of fun that's irresistible to both adults and children! These playful Minions are roaming the streets, free and unfettered, enjoying themselves everywhere! Minion Land is inspired by the animated film "Despicable Me," recreating many characters and iconic scenes from the film. Guests can also sing and dance with many of the stars from "Sing." At Super Cute Island, the adorable roller coaster and super cute whirlpool await. The main attraction is Minions Mayhem. In Gru's super-villain lab, visitors shrink down and transform into Minions, embarking on a fantastical adventure with all the Minions, Gru, and his three daughters. It's a delightful experience. In Minion Land, you become innocent and carefree, too! It's an immersive 4D virtual reality experience similar to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The Minions are incredibly adorable, making this park a great place for parents to bring their children.
The Minions Market is a great place for shopping and a paradise for Minions enthusiasts, offering a wide variety of Minions merchandise, including toys, mugs, and apparel. Plush toys inspired by the twelve Chinese zodiac animals are also available, allowing visitors to find a toy tailored to their specific zodiac sign.
Jurassic World
It is said that the fire above the gate of Jurassic Park will not go out even if it rains heavily, and it will not go out overnight. It is more durable than the Olympic flame.
Other attractions include Dragon House, Leap Over the Jurassic, Jurassic World Adventure, and Jurassic Camp. The "Raptor Encounter" allows visitors to have a close encounter with a velociraptor. With the help of a trainer, visitors can try to tame a majestic velociraptor or interact with a baby velociraptor.
Fly over the Jurassic: Board the self-propelled glider "Fly over the Jurassic" and soar through the skies of Isla Nublar in Jurassic World. Overlook the magnificent scenery of the entire earth from the perspective of a pterosaur. Experience a novel and unforgettable adventure! It was closed when I went there, so you can experience it on your own.
Coming out of Jurassic World, we just caught up with the "Global Tour". In the evening, many tourists lined the streets to watch the parade. Accompanied by a dynamic soundtrack, familiar characters from popular cartoon IPs, such as the Minions, Gru, and Kung Fu Panda, appeared one after another, interacting enthusiastically with visitors. "Universal Parade" is an original float parade created exclusively for Universal Studios Beijing. Unlike other permanent shows within the park, the "Universal Parade" will travel through several major areas of Universal Studios Beijing. The parade route is 1.2 kilometers long. Universal Studios Beijing boasts the longest parade route, largest floats, and most advanced design of any Universal theme park worldwide. The "Universal Parade" is divided into five distinct sections, based on stories from four beloved classic film franchises in China: "Despicable Me," "Shrek the Monsters," "Madagascar," and "Kung Fu Panda." Visitors can watch the parade from a single location for approximately 25 minutes.
Universal Studios' IPs come from global blockbuster movies, including Harry Potter, Transformers, and Kung Fu Panda... These movie IPs are restored at the pixel level and interact with the souls of visitors. One visitor described their experience this way: "At Disney, I felt like a real princess, but at Universal Studios, it felt like I'd successfully chased a celebrity." By now, you should understand that Universal Studios' underlying joy is an immersive experience combining movies, roller coasters, 4D virtual reality interactions, and a variety of themed check-in dining, entertainment, and entertainment. In-depth experiences offer a truly immersive experience, showcasing the film's details and stunning visuals, almost feeding back into the experience. One netizen commented: "I spent the day at Universal Studios and then rewatched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the hotel that night."
So it's best to review the movies before you go! Universal Studios is all about the movies! If you haven't seen Harry Potter, Transformers, or anything like that, what's the difference between going to Universal Studios and going to Happy Valley? So, if you haven't seen the movies, I strongly recommend watching them before you go (especially the Harry Potter movies). If you've already seen them, you can review them; it will definitely make your experience even better!
Prices at Universal Studios:
Many people say it's expensive, but it depends on where you compare it to. It's definitely not comparable to prices in the big markets. Quality, brand licensing, environment, and costs all vary, so it all depends on your budget. Every attraction at Universal Studios has free drinking water dispensers, and you can also try authentic Hogwarts Castle Butterbeer. Minions ice cream, 40 yuan each, very yellow and cute. Of course, you can also ask for free to borrow someone else's for a photo. There are two types of Harry Potter wands. The one with interactive magic function is 349 yuan, and the ordinary collector's version is 299 yuan. Wizarding robes for both adults and children are 849 yuan each, the Sorting Hat is 429 yuan, and the house badge is 99 yuan. It will cost a lot of money to get a complete set of school equipment.
In short, if you want to buy souvenirs, go ahead. If not, a little food and drink won't cost much! Don't worry too much about the price; just enjoy the experience and don't let it ruin your mood. After all, you're in the happiest place in the world!
You can pick up your souvenirs together!
Each theme park has a souvenir shop. If you've bought any, you can pick them up at the shop entrance at the entrance. You don't have to carry them with you the whole way. If you're in a rush and don't have any souvenirs left, don't worry. There's a huge and comprehensive shop at the entrance that won't let you go home empty-handed!
Comfortable clothing:
You'll basically walk over 20,000 steps, or more than 10 kilometers, throughout the day. Make sure you're comfortable with the right hiking gear. Don't let jeans or uncomfortable shoes get in your way. If you want to take beautiful photos, it's recommended to bring some extra shoes. No goddess can walk the entire trail in high heels. If the weather is bad, the park sells umbrellas and raincoats. Even the strollers you rent come with rain covers. If you're feeling unwell or overly tired, wheelchairs are available for rent. After an intense but fulfilling day, although exhausted, the staff at the scenic area were all smiling and waving, which was incredibly cheerful and upbeat. Even if the weather wasn't great, there were plenty of indoor activities to choose from. As night falls, the entire Universal Studios theme park lights up, transforming into a vibrant, vibrant spectacle. After the light show, we exited the park, where the Universal globe continued to spin, and people lingered, snapping photos and lingering memories. The movie eventually ends, and a beautiful day must finally come to an end. We walked back to City Boulevard, where we could enjoy a late-night snack and a restful rest. If you're calling a ride-hailing service, be sure to use the Universal Beijing Resort's ride-hailing pick-up and drop-off area. The ride will go around the roundabout, and you'll likely pick up and drop off at parking space 38. The above is my experience and tips for Universal Studios. It is definitely worth taking your family and friends to experience it! You can order tickets through the official app or mini program on September 14th. I hope everyone has a great time!
