A leisurely ancient tea horse road intertwines Tubo, Nanzhao and the Tang Dynasty. Dali is a must-pass for the ancient tea horse road. On this trip, we re-walked the ancient tea horse road in Dali and regained the memory of the ancient road in Dali.

1. Yunnan Yi Ancient Town

It is said that this is the earliest place called "Yunnan", and it is also the most important and prosperous distribution center of the ancient tea and horse road at that time.

Walking into this ancient post station, a bluestone road winds from the distant Central Plains, passes through the ancient town and then goes away, gradually disappearing between the vast mountains and the sea of clouds. The old streets, the shops on both sides are old and desolate, and the horseshoe prints are faintly visible on the old bluestone streets, confirming the fading history.

Thinking back to the past, there were officials and eunuchs living here, the army was pricked, and the horse gang was rested. It used to be busy with people, and it was very lively. Nowadays, things are different, and what was once lively is now deserted.

Second, Fengyangyi

is between the ancient city of Dali and Xiaguan, and hides a little-known ancient tea horse road - Fengyangyi Tea Horse Ancient Road.

This ancient tea horse road, passing through Taihe City, the old capital of Nanzhao, witnessed the glory of the ancient country of Nanzhao and the change of years. The houses on both sides of the ancient road are made of irregular stones, which have strong national characteristics and a long charm.

During the walk, the mottled old earthen walls, the dancing tile roof, the smooth and round stone floor, the vicissitudes of history have left a deep mark here, walking on the bluestone road of the ancient tea horse road, it seems that you can still hear the sound of horses passing by, and see the horses coming and going here back then.

3. Dali Ancient City

After returning from Fengyangyi, we stopped in Dali Ancient City and prepared to go to Shaxi Ancient Town the next day.

The ancient city of Dali, the clear tile roof and cobblestone walls in the whole city, show the simplicity and chic of the ancient city of Dali. Some old houses in the streets and alleys, the courtyard is lush with flowers and trees, the birds sing, and the outdoor streams and canals are gurgling. Old streets paved with bluestone slabs, lined with lively, quaint shops.

Tired of walking around the ancient city, I passed by Honglongjing and rested at the Puyun Ancient Tea Shop here. Sitting in the store, a cup of hot Pu-erh tea, the aroma of tea spreads with the rising water vapor, take a sip, bitter and sweet, the tea aroma is strong, the entrance is fresh, and the aftertaste is endless. Thinking back to the horse gangs back then, they were not afraid of hard work, not only to make the world familiar with Yunnan Pu'er tea, but also to get huge profits. Just like this Pu-erh tea, it is bitter first and then sweet.

4. Shaxi Ancient Town

Shaxi Ancient Town is a post station on the Tea Horse Ancient Road, and it is said to be the only surviving ancient market today.

Ancient temples, ancient theaters, ancient shops, horse shops, ancient red sand and stone streets, century-old trees, ancient lanes, and ancient village gates...... Every point opens the door to time. The ancient red sand and stone streets, lined with various small shops, still maintain their original appearance. The ancient Dongzhai Gate and Yujin Bridge still bear the imprints left by the Ma Gang back then. The ancient opera stage of Sideng Sifang Street, the melodious ancient music of the cave scriptures, echoes in the time of thousands of years.

Shaxi Ancient Town has gone through a process of development, growth, glory and decline, leaving only silent stone bridges, ancient roads, and ancient streets quietly telling its past.
