Weather in early September

Hi I’m planning a trip to Hong Kong this summer I’m planning to go either mid July, or early September (first week) how’s the weather in terms on rain/ typhoons? Any advice ?

Thanks in advance

Hong Kong’s weather in early September can be quite warm and humid, similar to the peak summer months, but there are a few important factors to consider before planning your trip.

In general, September is still part of Hong Kong’s typhoon season, which runs from May to November, with August and September being the most active months. Early September can have a mix of hot sunny days and occasional heavy rain showers. Temperatures typically range from 26°C to 32°C (79°F to 90°F), with high humidity often making it feel warmer.

Some key points to consider:

  • Rain: Short, intense rain showers are common. Expect sudden downpours and possible flooding in low-lying areas, but these often pass quickly.
  • Typhoons: There is a real chance of a typhoon warning in early September. If a typhoon approaches, public transport may be suspended, and some attractions or ferries could close.
  • Humidity: High humidity can make outdoor sightseeing tiring, so light, breathable clothing is recommended.
  • Sun protection: Even with rain, UV levels can be high, so sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are advisable.

Comparing mid-July and early September:

  • Mid-July: Extremely hot and humid, occasional thunderstorms, slightly lower risk of typhoons than September.
  • Early September: Still hot and humid, slightly cooler than July, but the risk of typhoon activity increases.

Advice: If you choose early September, monitor local weather forecasts closely, especially for typhoon warnings. Consider flexible indoor activities as backups in case of heavy rain. Staying in a centrally located hotel will make it easier to adjust plans at short notice. Overall, both periods are suitable for visiting, but be prepared for sudden weather changes and high humidity.
