Hi I’m probably being very over cautious!
So I’m uk and so is my partner but he’s working g in Australia. Planning short notice meet up in Hong Kong on his journey home. His passport (British)expires July so he’s fine to get home but anyone else used passport under 6 mnths validity to enter HK ? GOV.UK website says 1 month is accepted but have seen other sites saying 6 mnths and as we’ve not stayed HK before I’m literally checking anywhere I can! Any info appreciated
For British passport holders traveling to Hong Kong, the official guidance from the GOV.UK website states that your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your stay. For short visits, such as a few days or weeks, Hong Kong generally allows entry even if the passport has less than six months’ validity, as long as it is valid for the period you plan to be in Hong Kong.
Many travelers have reported successfully entering Hong Kong with passports having less than six months’ validity remaining, sometimes with as little as one month left. However, this can vary depending on the immigration officer and any updates to local regulations, so there is a small element of risk.
Practical advice:
Since your partner is British and returning from Australia, his passport validity should not be a problem for entry. Although most travelers report no issues with passports valid for under six months for short visits, the safest option is to renew if possible before travel to avoid any unexpected complications.
