Residence Inn, Dupont Circle (solo trip)

Hello all,

I am planning a 5 days trip in December arriving on Amtrak train from Boston. I really need a safe area to stay because I will be traveling without my husband, who unwisely thinks that we had been to Washington DC too many times and I disagree with him wholeheartedly.

I think staying in Georgetown/Dupont Circle areas would be a safe bet based on my previous experiences (we mostly stayed near Arlington and had a car).

Would Residence Inn, Dupont Circle, fit the bill for me? I don’t need any luxury perks and will not be returning to my room later than 8pm. I vastly prefer modern hotels and this one has been recently renovated.

Thank you so much in advance!

Nora

The Residence Inn Dupont Circle is generally considered a safe and convenient choice for solo travelers, especially in comparison to other parts of DC. Dupont Circle itself is a well-patrolled, lively, and walkable neighborhood with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops, making it a good area for someone arriving via Amtrak and wanting a pedestrian-friendly environment.

Here are some specific points to consider:

  • The hotel is in a modern, recently renovated building, so it should meet your preference for updated amenities and contemporary style.
  • Dupont Circle has a relatively low crime rate compared to some other neighborhoods, and it is busy with foot traffic, which adds to a sense of safety, especially before 8pm.
  • Public transportation access is excellent: the Dupont Circle Metro station on the Red Line is a short walk away, allowing easy travel to major sights such as the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and Georgetown.
  • Walking around in the evening is generally safe, but it’s always advisable to stay on well-lit streets and main thoroughfares.

Additional benefits of staying at Residence Inn Dupont Circle for a solo trip:

  • Free breakfast and kitchen facilities allow for easy meals if you prefer not to dine out alone every time.
  • Proximity to grocery stores and convenience shops is helpful for solo travelers who want to grab essentials.
  • Nearby dining options range from casual to upscale, giving flexibility depending on your comfort level and dining preferences.

Overall, if your priorities are safety, modern accommodations, and being in a walkable neighborhood with easy access to Metro, the Residence Inn Dupont Circle is a very suitable choice for your December solo trip to Washington DC.
