Hello

I’m flying into Phoenix next week and will overnight in Scottsdale before driving on to the south rim of Grand Canyon. I realize it’s about a 4 hour drive and wondered what part of Scottsdale would be best to stay in for a quick exit on to the GC?

Scottsdale is a large area east of Phoenix, and your goal is to position yourself for the fastest possible drive north to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The most direct route generally involves taking AZ-101 (Pima Freeway) north to I-17, then heading north to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon.

Best Areas to Stay in Scottsdale

North Scottsdale near Loop 101: Staying in the northern part of Scottsdale, close to the Pima Freeway (Loop 101) and Scottsdale Road, provides the quickest access to I-17 north. This area is convenient for an early morning departure without getting stuck in traffic heading out of Phoenix.
Scottsdale Airport / Central Scottsdale: This area offers many hotels, including major chains, and is still fairly close to the 101 northbound. You might add 10–15 minutes to your drive but benefit from a wider selection of hotels and dining options.
Near McDowell Road and Scottsdale Rd intersection: This area sits strategically for an easy exit onto the freeway and allows for a calm start before the 4-hour drive to the Grand Canyon.
