To Stay in Page or Not?
We are traveling from Grand Canyon South Rim to Page to see Antelope Canyon/Horseshoe Bend then Zion (probably near the South Entrance) in early April. Is it feasible to tour the Upper Antelope Canyon and see Horseshoe Bend AND move on to Springdale, UT in the same day? We are a family of 5 (kids are 9, 11, 13). Thank you!!!
It is technically possible to visit Upper Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend and then continue on to Springdale, UT, in the same day, but there are several considerations, especially with kids and in early April when daylight hours are moderate.
Timing Considerations
- Driving from Grand Canyon South Rim to Page is about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on your starting point and stops along the way.
- Upper Antelope Canyon tours usually last 1 to 1.5 hours. It is recommended to book your tour in advance, as slots can fill up quickly.
- Horseshoe Bend is about 10 minutes from Page town, plus a 20-minute walk from the parking area. Expect 30–45 minutes for a casual visit and photos.
- The drive from Page to Springdale (Zion South Entrance) is roughly 2 hours. Arriving in the evening is possible, but it may feel rushed.
Pros and Cons of Doing It in One Day
- Pros: Saves a night in Page, allows you to get to Zion earlier the next day.
- Cons: Very full day, limited flexibility for breaks, meals, and sightseeing pace—especially with children aged 9–13. Delays at Antelope Canyon or traffic could make the day stressful.
Alternative Option: Stay Overnight in Page
- Allows for a more relaxed visit to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend.
- Provides buffer in case of tour delays, road traffic, or other unforeseen events.
- Gives you the opportunity for sunrise or sunset photography at Horseshoe Bend, which is highly recommended for lighting.
- Breaks up the long drive, reducing fatigue for kids.
Recommendation
If your family is comfortable with a long, tightly scheduled day, doing all in one day is feasible but will feel rushed. For a more relaxed experience and better enjoyment of Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, consider staying overnight in Page and leaving for Springdale the next morning. This also allows you to arrive at Zion with energy for hiking or exploring.
