2 questions, please help - weather & disneyland

Hi all,

we are coming from Australia (where its sweltering hot right now) to HK next week. Google says tops 20 deg during the day and just over 10 in the evenings/nights.. Any advice on what kind of winter clothes are we to bring over?

Question 2:

We are going to disneyland on 23/Dec with our 6 year old daughter. She loves frozen, is there a plan of action or things to do first to make sure we don't get to wait too long for frozen land?

thanks very much for your help

December is winter in Hong Kong, but it’s a very mild one compared to most temperate regions. For visitors coming from Australia’s summer heat, it will definitely feel cool to chilly, especially in the evenings. Daytime highs of around 18–22°C and nighttime lows of 10–13°C are typical. The air is dry, and there can be a light breeze, especially near Victoria Harbour or at Disneyland, which is located on Lantau Island where temperatures can feel cooler due to open spaces and wind.

For clothing, you don’t need heavy winter coats, but layering is key so you can adjust as the temperature changes throughout the day. Locals often dress warmly, so blending in with layered outfits will be comfortable and practical.

  • Light sweater or fleece: Perfect for daytime walks or indoor attractions.
  • Medium jacket or windbreaker: Useful for early mornings and evenings, especially outdoors or near the water.
  • Long pants or jeans: Shorts will feel too cold; stick to warmer bottoms.
  • Closed shoes: Sneakers or comfortable walking shoes are best for Disneyland and exploring the city.
  • Optional scarf and light gloves: Good for nights when temperatures drop below 12°C, particularly if your child feels the cold easily.

Regarding your Disneyland visit on December 23, expect large crowds since it’s just before Christmas. The newly opened World of Frozen area is the most popular attraction this season, and lines can get very long (often 60–120 minutes for key rides). A bit of planning will make your day smoother and more enjoyable for your 6-year-old.

  • Arrive early: Plan to arrive 45–60 minutes before park opening. Queues form early at the entrance, and early arrival lets you head straight to Frozen-themed attractions before they fill up.
  • Head directly to World of Frozen first: Once gates open, go straight to Arendelle. The main rides there are “Frozen Ever After” (boat ride) and “Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs” (family coaster). Do these before anything else.
  • Use the Disneyland App: Download the official Hong Kong Disneyland app before your visit. It provides real-time wait times, maps, and options for mobile food ordering, helping you save time and plan efficiently.
  • Consider Disney Premier Access: This paid option lets you skip long lines for popular attractions, including Frozen rides. It’s worth it on peak days like December 23.
  • Meet-and-Greet with Elsa and Anna: Check the app for scheduled times and queue early—these sessions fill quickly with children.

After exploring Frozen Land, take breaks for shows and indoor attractions, which are good for warming up if it’s breezy outside. The park has festive decorations, parades, and a Christmas fireworks show at night, so plan to stay until evening for the full holiday experience. Dress your daughter warmly for the nighttime parade, as temperatures drop after sunset and the wind can be cool near the castle area.

In summary, pack light winter clothing with layers for flexibility, plan to start early at Disneyland with Frozen attractions first, and make use of the app and Premier Access to reduce wait times. Your family will have a magical experience—especially your daughter—with the beautiful Frozen-themed setting and Christmas atmosphere throughout the park.
