Taipa or Cotai for Poker?

Will be in Macau later this week just for a day and would like to play some Texas Holdem. Can someone suggest where should I book a hotel just for a night that’s convenient as I won’t be spending some time in it anyways

Thanks

For a short stay in Macau focused mainly on playing Texas Hold’em, your choice of hotel should prioritize proximity to the major poker rooms rather than leisure or sightseeing facilities.

Macau’s poker scene is primarily centered in the casinos along the Cotai Strip and Taipa. Cotai hosts many of the newer, larger resorts with dedicated poker rooms, while Taipa has a mix of both older and newer properties.

If convenience is your main concern for just one night:

  • Cotai: Most of the major poker rooms are located in Cotai casinos, including The Venetian Macao, City of Dreams, and Galaxy. Staying here gives you immediate access to poker tables and avoids extra travel time.
  • Taipa: Some casinos and poker rooms are in Taipa, like the City of Dreams Taipa branch, but options are slightly fewer and slightly more spread out compared to Cotai.

Recommended approach:

  • Book a hotel directly on the Cotai Strip if your priority is playing poker efficiently and minimizing commuting time. The Venetian Macao is a popular choice for poker players due to its large poker room and variety of stakes.
  • If you find a good last-minute rate in Taipa and it’s a smaller room, it can work, but you may need to take a short taxi or shuttle to Cotai poker venues.

Additional tips:

  • Check the casino websites or call ahead to confirm poker room availability and operating hours.
  • Consider transport between Taipa and Cotai if you stay in Taipa; it’s not far, but during peak times, shuttles and taxis may be busy.
  • Book early as poker-friendly hotels can fill up quickly, especially during weekends or holidays.

In summary, for a one-night stay mainly to play Texas Hold’em, Cotai is the more convenient location due to its concentration of poker rooms, while Taipa is a secondary option if you find a suitable deal or prefer a quieter stay.
