First Weekend of February
Have the opportunity to visit the first weekend in February. Is there anything going on that weekend in addition to the hockey game? We will arrive Saturday and leave Tuesday.
Are there any tours that go to different tours with views of the mountains or is that doable in downtown Denver?
Looking for a very comfortable hotel in case the weather is not permitting (rain storm).
Heading to Denver for the first weekend in February is a great idea — there’s a good mix of winter charm, mountain access, and city attractions. Here’s what to expect and some good options for tours and hotels given potential winter weather.
What to Do That Weekend
- City Events & Indoor Activities: While February weekends in Denver are quieter than the summer festival season, there are still plenty of things to do. According to local event listings, you might find comedy shows, theater, and interesting museum visits.
- Winter Tours into the Mountains:
- Aspire Tours – Rocky Mountain National Park Tour: An 8-hour guided tour from Denver that takes you into the Rockies, with alpine views, possible wildlife sighting, and photo stops.
- Aspire Tours – Rocky Mountain Escape (Half-Day): If you want a shorter trip, this half-day tour leaves from downtown Denver, goes into the nearby mountains, and brings you back in time for dinner.
- Breckenridge Full-Day Trip: A Viator tour option that takes you to Breckenridge — scenic mountain town experience, historical feel, and a taste of Colorado’s high country.
- Scenic Train Ride: The Winter Park Express (seasonal) runs from Denver to Winter Park. It’s very scenic, goes through tunnels, and offers a relaxing way to experience mountain vistas without driving.
Things to Keep in Mind for This Time of Year
- Winter Weather: February can be cold, possibly snowy. Dress in layers and bring good boots. If you're planning mountain tours, be ready for changing conditions.
- Daylight: Days are still relatively short, so plan outdoor excursions for the middle of the day when light is best.
- Tour Availability: Some tours may be limited in winter, especially ones that rely on mountain passes. Book in advance where possible.
Hotel Recommendations (Comfortable & Winter-Ready)
- Luxury/Boutique: Consider downtown or Capitol Hill hotels that have cozy common areas, good heating, and indoor amenities like lounges. These are ideal if you need a warm base when the weather is bad.
- Upscale Chain Hotels: Look for hotels with good reviews on comfort, heating, and possibly a fireplace or indoor public space — these give you a comfy “home base” for your trip.
Bottom Line: Yes — the first weekend in February is a solid time to visit Denver. Between winter mountain tours, city attractions, and cozy hotel options, you’ll have plenty to do even if the weather isn’t ideal. Booking your mountain trip in advance and choosing a comfortable hotel will help make the most of your visit.
