Visitor Toll Pass

Not a question, but feedback...VTP is a MUST for every visitor arriving into MCO and renting a car.

Rental companies try their hardest to get customers to take out a SunPass/e-Pass solution for tolls...for a regular holiday traveller these are a rip off!

VTP is by the Central Florida Expressway Authority, allowing drivers to drive through e-toll lanes and only charges for the tolls you use, not an upfront payment for the tolls you may use.

In the two weeks we used the pass, we only racked up $25 in tolls (around half of this from a trip to watch a SpaceX launch).

If you're based in Kissimmee and are doing the Disney/Universal park holiday, get one of these (you can pre-book) from the vending machine in Terminal A...all you have to do is hang it from the rear view mirror with the barcode facing out...and updating the VTP App with the rental vehicle registration.

If you are visiting Central Florida and renting a car from Orlando International Airport (MCO), the Visitor Toll Pass (VTP) is highly recommended. It offers a simple, cost-effective solution for driving on Florida's toll roads, avoiding the often overpriced SunPass/e-Pass options offered by rental car companies.

The VTP is managed by the Central Florida Expressway Authority and allows drivers to use e-toll lanes without paying an upfront fee. Instead, you are only charged for the tolls you actually incur. This is ideal for short-term visitors who may not use the toll roads extensively.

Key points about the Visitor Toll Pass:

  • Pre-bookable: You can reserve a VTP in advance and pick it up at Terminal A at MCO.
  • Simple setup: Hang the VTP from your rearview mirror with the barcode facing outward, and update the VTP app with your rental vehicle’s registration.
  • Pay only for what you use: Unlike rental car company toll passes that may charge a daily fee regardless of usage, VTP only bills you for actual tolls.
  • Convenient for theme parks: If you’re staying in Kissimmee or driving to Disney, Universal, or other attractions, this pass ensures smooth access to express lanes and avoids long queues at toll booths.
  • Cost-effective: Example usage for a two-week stay might only amount to around $25 in tolls, depending on your travel, such as trips to watch a SpaceX launch or other day trips in Central Florida.

In short, the VTP is a must-have for visitors renting cars at MCO. It provides convenience, transparency in toll charges, and a more economical alternative to rental company toll solutions.
