Where to stay near Rockies spring training camp

We’re planning a trip to see a couple of Colorado Rockies spring training games. Should we stay in Scottsdale or somewhere else? Just us two old folks and we will have a car.

For attending Colorado Rockies spring training games, Scottsdale is a very convenient base. The Rockies play at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, which is located on the eastern edge of Scottsdale. Staying in Scottsdale gives you easy access by car, and you’ll also be near restaurants, shopping, and other amenities for a relaxed stay.

Here are some considerations for your stay:

  • Proximity to Salt River Fields: Scottsdale is only about a 10–15 minute drive from the stadium, making it ideal for game days without having to navigate long distances or complicated traffic.
  • Comfortable accommodations: Scottsdale offers a wide range of hotels, resorts, and boutique stays. For older travelers, look for hotels with easy parking, ground-floor or elevator access, and comfortable lounges for relaxing after the game.
  • Other nearby options: If you prefer a quieter stay, you could consider hotels in nearby Tempe, which is about 20 minutes away, or even near the airport for convenience. However, Scottsdale generally provides the best combination of proximity, amenities, and scenery.

Suggested approach:

  • Book a hotel in Scottsdale central or east Scottsdale to minimize drive time to Salt River Fields.
  • Ensure your hotel offers parking, since you’ll be driving to the games.
  • Consider exploring Old Town Scottsdale for dining and leisure between games, as it offers walkable streets and a nice variety of restaurants and shops.

In summary, Scottsdale is the most convenient and enjoyable choice for your Rockies spring training trip. It balances proximity to the stadium with access to dining, shopping, and a comfortable, walkable environment for older travelers.
