3 prepaid SIM

This is not a question, but I cannot seem to find anywhere else to place a review / warn other travellers.

If travelling to Hong Kong AVOID BUYING 3 prepaid SIM. It did not work, the after sales service was appalling (I've never been told "you have bought it, it is not our problem"!).

To turn it into a question - can anyone suggest how to let other travellers avoid being caught out?

It’s frustrating to have a prepaid SIM fail, especially when traveling. Sharing your experience can help other travelers avoid similar issues. Here are some ways you can do that effectively:

1. Post reviews on travel forums and platforms where travelers often seek advice before trips. This includes:

  • TripAdvisor forums for Hong Kong, under the “Internet Access & SIM cards” section.
  • Google Maps and Apple Maps reviews for the specific 3 prepaid SIM outlets.
  • Travel review sites like Lonely Planet Thorntree forum or Reddit’s r/travel subreddit.

2. Use social media to warn others:

  • Twitter/X: Post a concise review with hashtags like #HongKongSIM #3HK.
  • Facebook travel groups: Share your experience in groups dedicated to Hong Kong travel or general Asia travel.
  • Travel blogs: If you maintain one, write a detailed post explaining your experience and the lack of after-sales support.

3. Leave feedback on the company’s own platforms:

  • 3 Hong Kong website or app – even if they may respond poorly, leaving a public review can alert others.
  • Consumer review sites such as Trustpilot or Yelp if the company has a listing.

Practical tips for future travelers:

  • Consider SIM cards from other reputable providers like CSL, China Unicom, or local airport kiosks that have good reviews.
  • Check if the SIM has proper activation support and can be tested before leaving the store.
  • Keep receipts and photos of the packaging and activation codes in case of problems.

By sharing your experience across multiple platforms, you maximize visibility and help fellow travelers avoid the same pitfalls.
