Hotel & logistics question

We are planning a 2 week road trip through CO and northern New Mexico at end of April and early May. Flying in and out of DIA (cheaper flights). We want to catch a game at Coors Field at the end of our trip. If we drop rental car off, what would best option be for 2 night stay? Need to get to Coors Field for afternoon game and back to airport for next morning flight home. Thanks!

For a two-night stay in Denver at the end of your road trip, where your priorities are attending a Coors Field game and returning to DIA (Denver International Airport) the next morning without a rental car, you’ll want to balance proximity to the stadium, convenience for airport access, and ease of transportation.

Here are some considerations:

  • Downtown Denver (LoDo / Union Station area):
    • Pros:
      • Close walking distance to Coors Field for the game.
      • Vibrant area with restaurants, bars, and evening entertainment.
      • Access to public transportation and taxis/rideshares for getting to DIA the next morning.
    • Cons:
      • Parking can be expensive if you still have a vehicle for a short time.
      • Potentially more crowded, especially on game days.
  • Near DIA / Airport Hotels:
    • Pros:
      • Extremely convenient for early morning flights—shuttle service often included.
      • Generally less expensive than downtown hotels.
      • No need to worry about traffic or parking for the airport.
    • Cons:
      • Far from Coors Field—roughly 30–40 minutes drive each way, depending on traffic.
      • Fewer dining and entertainment options near the hotel compared to downtown.

Transportation tips without a car:

  • If staying downtown, use rideshare (Uber/Lyft) to DIA the next morning. Plan extra time for morning airport traffic.
  • Some downtown hotels offer airport shuttles, though schedules may be limited for early flights.
  • If staying near the airport, you can take an Uber/Lyft to Coors Field for the game, but account for traffic and game-day congestion.

Recommended approach:

Given your priorities—attending a Coors Field game and catching an early morning flight—the best balance is likely to stay downtown near Coors Field or Union Station for both nights. You can enjoy a relaxed evening after the game, have restaurants and nightlife nearby, and then arrange a rideshare or hotel shuttle to DIA the next morning. Staying near the airport is convenient for flights, but the long trip to Coors Field on game day may be stressful, especially with traffic.
