MTR Tourist Day Pass & HK airport bus

Hello,

Anyone know if the MTR Tourist Day Pass (HK$75) work at the airport for the A11 bus to Causeway Bay?

I know the normal fare for the A11 bus is HK$41.9, but wasn't sure if the Day Pass include the airport bus as I understand the Express Train is excluded. Thanks.

The MTR Tourist Day Pass in Hong Kong is a convenient option for unlimited rides on most MTR lines for a full day, including the Airport Express stations, but there are important exceptions you should be aware of.

The Day Pass covers standard MTR lines, including the Airport Express stations if you transfer to normal MTR services at the intermediate stations. However, it does not cover special Airport Express fares, which are higher than normal MTR fares. Essentially, you can use the Day Pass to ride trains on the Airport Express line but not the premium Airport Express service fare to the city terminals.

Regarding the A11 airport bus from Hong Kong International Airport to Causeway Bay, the MTR Tourist Day Pass does not cover bus services. The pass is valid only for MTR trains and Light Rail in the New Territories, and it excludes buses, trams, ferries, and any Airport Express premium fare.

Therefore, if you want to travel from the airport to Causeway Bay using the A11 bus, you will need to pay the normal fare (HK$41.9) separately, as the Day Pass cannot be used for this route.

Summary:

  • MTR Tourist Day Pass (HK$75) covers unlimited rides on regular MTR lines for one day.
  • It does not cover Airport Express premium fares or airport buses like A11.
  • You will need to pay HK$41.9 for the A11 bus to Causeway Bay separately.
  • If you want to use the Airport Express train to the city, the Day Pass covers rides only between standard MTR stations, not the Express fare directly to central terminals.

Alternative options to reach Causeway Bay from the airport include:

  • Taking the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station and then transferring via MTR Island Line to Causeway Bay. You would pay the Airport Express premium fare but the MTR transfer is included.
  • Using a taxi for a more direct, but more expensive, option.

In conclusion, the MTR Tourist Day Pass is useful for unlimited standard train travel in Hong Kong, but you should plan to pay separately for airport buses and Airport Express premium fares.
