Taxi

Hi

We arrived ard 5pm

If we have 4 pax with 4 luggage of 20/24 inch, how do we get a mpv taxi if we are at Tianfu Airport? Is there anyone taking charge at the taxi stand? Is a fixed rate to downtown or follow meter?

We are thinking to take the metro to Chengdu south railway and then from there take taxi. Do we need 2 taxi or we need to wait for mpv?

Thanks

At Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, arranging transport for four passengers with multiple pieces of luggage is straightforward but requires some planning. Standard taxis in Chengdu are sedans and can usually accommodate three passengers plus limited luggage, so for four people with four 20–24 inch suitcases, an MPV or minivan is the safest option.

MPV Taxi at Tianfu Airport:

  • There is a designated taxi stand outside the arrivals hall. Airport staff are present to guide passengers to the appropriate queue.
  • For larger groups or more luggage, there is usually an option to request an MPV/minivan taxi. You can ask the staff at the taxi desk or the airport service counter to arrange one. These are typically Baojun 730, Buick GL8, or similar models.
  • MPV taxis may operate on a metered fare or a fixed airport-to-downtown fare. The fixed fare to Chengdu city center is common and generally ranges from CNY 180–220 depending on the exact district. Make sure to confirm with the driver before starting the trip.

Alternative: Metro plus taxi:

  • The Chengdu Metro Line 18 connects Tianfu Airport to the city, terminating at Chengdu South Railway Station.
  • This is convenient, but if you still have four pieces of luggage, you may face crowding and difficulty storing luggage on the train, especially during peak hours.
  • Once at Chengdu South Railway Station, you could take a standard taxi, but you may need two taxis depending on luggage and passenger comfort. Alternatively, some taxi stands at the station may have MPVs available if you wait.

In general, for comfort and convenience with four passengers and luggage, taking a pre-arranged MPV taxi directly from Tianfu Airport is recommended. You can also use app-based services like DiDi, which allows you to request larger vehicles in advance, and the fare is calculated upfront.

Summary:

  • Approach the taxi desk at the airport for guidance; staff can help you find an MPV.
  • MPV taxis may use a fixed fare to downtown; confirm with driver before starting.
  • If using the metro first, consider luggage logistics and whether one MPV can be found at Chengdu South Railway Station.
  • App-based ride-hailing services (DiDi) are a convenient alternative for MPVs with transparent pricing.

This approach ensures you travel comfortably and avoid splitting into two separate taxis while handling luggage efficiently.
