Shanghai Hongqiao Airport

Question

I'm advised that I would be better coming into Shangha Pudong airport rather than Hongqiao airport from Tokyo, even though Hongqiao is much nearer to Shanghai city centre. I can't really understand this. Any reason I should be put off coming into Hongqiao?

Immigration, customs, and baggage handling may be smoother for first-time visitors in Pudong due to higher international traveler volume.

If your flight options are limited or you want a smoother international arrival experience, Pudong is safer and more reliable.
