Supply stop

We’re flying to Miami, renting a car and heading to the keys. We’d prefer to take the FL turnpike down to the keys from the airport but would like to stop and pick up a cooler and a few food supplies. Would someone recommend a good place to stop for that along this route? I guess it would need to be before we get on the turnpike.

If you’re looking to stop for a cooler and food supplies on your way to the Florida Keys, there are a few places just before you hop onto the Florida Turnpike that could work well for this. Here are some options that are convenient, with good selections for your needs:

  • Publix Super Market (Kendall Area) - Publix is a popular grocery store chain in Florida and has several locations along your route. The Publix near the intersection of Kendall Drive and 87th Avenue (just off the turnpike) is a great place to stop. It’s close to the airport and offers a wide variety of groceries, including coolers, snacks, drinks, and pre-packaged foods. There’s also a deli section where you can grab sandwiches if you want something quick for the road.
  • Walmart (Miami Area) - If you’re looking for a larger selection of supplies, a Walmart Supercenter near 167th Street and the Turnpike offers everything from coolers to food, drinks, and snacks. Walmart is always a reliable choice for picking up all your travel essentials, and it’s not far from the route you'll take to get on the turnpike. This could be a one-stop shop for everything you need.
  • Flanigan’s Seafood Bar and Grill (Kendall Area) - If you're looking for a more unique stop with some local flavor, you can swing by Flanigan’s, a popular Florida chain. While it's not a grocery store, it could be a fun place to grab a bite to eat and take a break. It's located close to the 826 Expressway, not far from the turnpike, so it might be a good option if you need a quick meal before hitting the road.

Any of these options will allow you to stock up on the essentials before you get on the turnpike. If you want a quick and easy stop, Publix is probably your best bet. If you need a larger selection, Walmart would be a solid choice. Either way, you’ll be well-equipped for your trip to the Keys!
