On Demand Transit

Heading to KW for our 13th annual tip in March & just read that there is an on demand transit service now available covering KW & Stock Island. Wondering if anyone has used it & do they have bike racks? Thinking of taking it (along with our bikes) from the BW Hibiscus to Stock Island.

It’s great to hear that you’ll be visiting Key West for your 13th annual trip! The on-demand transit service you're referring to is part of the Key West Transit system, designed to offer more flexible and convenient transportation options around Key West and Stock Island. Here's what you should know about using it, especially with your bikes:

  • On-Demand Service Overview - The Key West on-demand transit service, sometimes referred to as the "KW On-Demand Shuttle," is a public ride-sharing system designed to cover the areas of Key West and Stock Island. It operates much like other ride-sharing services but is specifically for the Key West area. You can book rides through an app or by calling their service directly.
  • Bike Racks Availability - Yes, the on-demand transit service does accommodate bikes! They are equipped with bike racks, so you can easily take your bikes along for the ride. This is perfect for getting to Stock Island with your bikes, as it saves you the hassle of parking and biking through busy streets. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check availability when you book, as the bike rack space may be limited depending on the demand.
  • Route and Travel Time - The transit service will take you from the BW Hibiscus area (on Key West) to Stock Island, which is a quick ride, usually under 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic and stops along the way. This can be a very convenient option, especially if you’re looking to avoid the parking hassles in busy areas of Key West.

Overall, the on-demand service should be a great choice for you to travel between Key West and Stock Island with your bikes. It's affordable, flexible, and bike-friendly. Just make sure to check the app or service details to confirm the bike rack availability, as there can sometimes be limited space during peak hours.

Enjoy your trip to the Keys, and happy cycling!
