Macau to chimelong Zhuhai

Hello trip experts, I’m taking 2 kids (3 and 5) to chimelong ocean in Zhu hai via Macau. We will arrive on a weds at 6pm at Macau airport. Should I stay for 1 night in Macau or should I head straight to chimelong? Is the port crossing going to be crazy?

We are planning to book at private transfer that takes us from Macau airport (or Macau hotel if we stay for a night) directly to chimelong.

Thanks!

Traveling from Macau to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai with young children requires some planning, especially when arriving in the evening. Here’s a detailed overview to help you decide whether to stay in Macau or head straight to Chimelong:

Arrival considerations:

  • Arriving at Macau airport at 6pm means you’ll likely exit the airport around 6:30–7pm after baggage claim and customs.
  • Crossing from Macau to Zhuhai involves passing through the border checkpoint. Evening traffic can be heavy, and with young children, this could be tiring and slow.
  • Private transfers can streamline the process, but border clearance still takes time, especially at peak periods.

Option 1: Stay one night in Macau

  • Pros:
    • Rest and recover from travel, especially for the kids.
    • Reduce stress of a late-night border crossing.
    • Option to explore Macau in the evening if you wish (easy walks around the city, light dinner).
  • Cons:
    • Extra hotel cost.
    • Requires booking and moving luggage the next day to Chimelong.

Option 2: Head straight to Chimelong

  • Pros:
    • Arrive directly at your destination, ready to start the next day at the park.
    • One less hotel move.
  • Cons:
    • Evening border crossing could be slow and tiring for children.
    • Traffic from Macau airport to Chimelong can be unpredictable.

Additional tips:

  • Booking a private transfer is a good idea; it simplifies luggage handling and reduces the stress of using taxis or public transport with children.
  • Check the operating hours of the border crossing; some checkpoints close around midnight.
  • If you choose to stay in Macau, consider a hotel near the airport or near the border for convenience.

Recommendation:

With young children and an evening arrival, staying one night in Macau is generally the more comfortable and less stressful option. This allows everyone to rest and avoid a late border crossing. The next morning, you can take a private transfer directly to Chimelong, ensuring a smooth start to your visit.
